Too late?
Re: Too late?
I didn't want to post this in Lasto, and this was the most recent thread I could find which mentions banned books, though it focuses on Maus. Anyway, posting it here... (Oops, looks like this thread IS in Lasto...oh well..)
A friend posted this list of banned books on FB today. If you make the image larger, you can read the reasons they were banned. The library is obviously trying to encourage people to read them. Some of the reasons are SO stupid, It's unbelievable!
The first book in the second row is obviously a Winnie the Pooh book. It was banned because it is 'being disrespectful to God by having animals that talk."
I imagine the kids of this poor, deluded, unimaginative parent have never been allowed to watch cartoons, or numerous kids' shows and movies which feature talking animals (Sesame Street, Kung Fu Panda, Finding Nemo, etc. etc.)
"Hop on Pop" was banned for encouraging children to use violence against their fathers.
"The Wizard of Oz" was banned for showing women in strong leadership roles.
"The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe' was banned for having mysticism, excessive gore and violence. Never mind it's a Christian allegory.
"The Lorax" was banned for being anti-logging.

When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

Oh boy, can't wait till they get to Balaam.
The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

I love that display! Good for them. Librarians are really brave people. I've seen it in our own community.

Re: Too late?
According to the Los Angeles Times, the banner was put up by an established antisemitic group looking to take advantage of Kanye using his fame to promote antisemitic talking points.
Both the Anti-Defamation League and StopAntisemitism attributed the overpass demonstration to the Goyim Defense League, which has roots in California and has repeatedly staged antisemitic demonstrations in L.A. and neighboring cities like Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.
StopAntisemitism said the demonstration represented a “merging” of West’s “horrific antisemitic outbursts” and the Goyim Defense League’s track record of distributing antisemitic materials in the region.
“White supremacists capitalizing on Ye’s ongoing antisemitic tantrums is another example of how extremists find a commonality in the hatred of Jews,” said Liora Rez, executive director of StopAntisemitism. “While the atrocious and bigoted behavior of the GDL may be protected by the 1st Amendment, this is clearly a targeted harassment campaign against the Jewish people.”
He said the Goyim Defense League had recently taken to the messaging platform Telegram to discuss capitalizing on West’s comments with yet more fliers — this time blaming Jewish people for the slave trade.

Re: Too late?
In Rachel Maddow's podcast 'Ultra' she goes over some of the history of anti-semitism, especially in California in the run up/during WWII. I think it's in episode 2 but the series is worth the listen. Sadly, haters gonna hate. I wish all of that time & energy could be spent on better, kinder, healthier pursuits.

Because of the anti-Semitic remarks he's been spewing, Kanye West has been dropped by his management company (yesterday) and by Adidas (earlier today), but Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee (led by Rep. Jim Jordan) are still there for him:Eldy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 1:20 amAccording to the Los Angeles Times, the banner was put up by an established antisemitic group looking to take advantage of Kanye using his fame to promote antisemitic talking points.

Kanye West's 2018 album was titled Ye. Four sources have told CNN that West originally wanted to name the album Hitler. (There have been rumors about that for years.)N.E. In the same report, CNN notes that a former staffer at the gossipy (and weirdly pro-Trump) entertainment program TMZ, speaking on the record, who says that TMZ edited out West praising Hitler in an interview.

I believe the founder of TMZ is Harvey Robert Levin and he was the former host of OBJECTified which aired on FOX news. He is a supporter of Donald Trump.

NBC reports that Kanye West "praised Hitler in front of people for years, leading to countless NDAs and a settlement agreement ... West’s public antisemitism is just the tip of the iceberg, former associates say." NBC has reviewed the settlement agreement and has six sources who confirm West made such remarks.N.E. That House Republican tweet praising West (and matching with with Elon Musk and Donald Trump) still hasn't been taken down.
Re: Too late?
Meanwhile in Russia, Russian Nazis are accusing Ukrainians of being Nazis but also saying that they are Nazying wrong and Russian Nazis are much more genuine.
Just in case you thought the world has gone sane again.
He also boasts that their Russian ancestors built spaceships. Someone ought to tell him where those spaceships were built.

House Judiciary Republicans finally deleted that tweet praising Kanye West. I guess "net" + "Yoo-hoo" was too much for them.N.E. But as Chris Hayes notes, they seem to have overlooked this one:
Edit: And now Kanye West has tweeted an image of a Star of David entwined with a swastika.

The terrorist groups shot up two substations in the Moore County, leaving thousands without power, in an attempt to shut down the show.Erin Reed (@ErinlnTheMorn) wrote:A massive convergence of right wing militants in Columbus, some armed, just shut down a drag holiday event. Organizers expected police to show, unsurprisingly, they did not.
Or they did dressed in black/yellow.
Proud Boys and Patriot Front are emboldened after Club Q.
Recall that the German Nazis also made the "sexually deviant their target as soon as they took power.

I read the words "right wing militants, some armed" in the quote Frelga posted, but that somehow didn't prepare me for the photos.

In a written statement Saturday evening, Council President Shannon Hardin said he had been in communication with Ginther and top police leadership about the event for more than a week.
"It is upsetting to see a terrorist group bus in white supremacist bullies with assault rifles to intimidate families and children," Hardin said. "Hate has no place in Columbus, and we certainly have too many guns in the streets already."
Hardin added, "There can always be better communications, and we must all continue speaking out against the Proud Boys for bringing their hate speech to Columbus."
Re: Too late?
Maybe event organizers for these things should look into hiring their own security. Dress 'em up like Proud Boys but with pride flags. I wonder how law enforcement will respond to that.

It seems they may have a lead as to who may be responsible for taking down the electrical substation.Moore County investigators have applied for search warrants in substation shootings
And if the shooting is determined to have played a roll in any deaths due to the power outage, the shooter may be in for even bigger trouble than they bargained for.
This type of terrorism/vandalism shouldn't be tolerated. I hope they catch the perpetrators.
