Leithian - The Opera

Post by Alatar »

Here, with full permission of the author, Adam Klein, is the full opera Leithian as performed in concert in New York. Due to legal problems with the Tolkien Estate Adam can't sell copies, but he is allowed to freely distribute copies to individuals. You're all individuals, right?

Sorry, brief Life of Brian flashback there.

Prologue
Scene 1
Scene 2
Scene 3
Scene 4
Scenes 5 and 6

Libretto in Word Format

P.S. For some reason I can't upload the final scene. Can a friendly admin check my album to see if there's a size limit or something? In fact it might be better to create a new Album called "Leithian" and give me access rights to it.

Thanks so much for posting these! I'm listening right now. It's a live recording, no?

On a side note, I was looking for a painting of Lúthien to use as cover art and would like to know why this is the very first image that google comes up with.
And it is said by the Eldar that in the water there lives yet the echo of the Music of the Ainur more than in any substance else that is in this Earth; and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the sea, and yet know not what for what they listen.

Alatar, I've been in and out but I'm on a deadline—I'm not ignoring your request, I just have literally a couple of minutes every time I stop in. If no one else has gotten to it before tonight (say 8 hours from now), I'll probably be able to take care of it for you then. Sorry!
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Cool! Thanks, Alatar.

I received an email from Adam letting me know he'd linked the opera at his site: Adam's Opera. He mentioned that Alatar invited him to come read the posts here.

He has scene 7 on his site, which it seems Alatar has not yet downloaded and/or linked.

I just saw that Part Two of the opera is going to be performed on April 14 and 15, 2007 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 225 West 99th Street, New York City.

Congralulations, Aldaron (Adam).

Wonderful to see here! Please don't be a stranger.

(Aldaron did post about this in a separate thread.)

Just posting to wish good luck with the performance! :)

Look forward to hearing reports of how it went. :D
