Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - with SPOILERS
I know there's a lot of Book->Film descussion elsewhere, but I thought there might be some interest in a general news thread. Anyway, here's a few publicity shots from Leaky Cauldron.
Harry, Ron, Hermione
Dumbledore's Army
Professor Umbridge at her desk
Harry defending against Dementors
Sacking Trelawney
Incidentally, Luna Lovegood is the girl beside Ron in "Dumbledore's Army"

Thanks for posting those, Alatar! I'd only seen the fuzzy scans from The Scotsman newspaper.
Although Umbridge doesn't look enough like a frog to match the book, they nailed everything else. That horrible outfit in the last photo. And the repulsive kitten plates in her office!

“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

That's Luna, all right, wispy and dreamy.

The purist in me disagrees. Harry's hair isn't messy and scruffy...as well as Hermione's. Little things like that niggle me as there's absolutely no reason why they couldn't hold true to the book.Primula Baggins wrote:Although Umbridge doesn't look enough like a frog to match the book, they nailed everything else.
It's too bad the twins got their hair cut. They actually could pull off the long hair and looked good doing it.
And it looks like Dudley is turning into a chav!

Harry's growing up. As he should. He was getting a little old for the bowl haircut anyway.

Hope it will be as good as it looks like.
But, as the movie opens in July in most other countries, we'll probably have to wait for a few weeks longer - there isn't any sense in placing the premiere of a definite blockbuster in the middle of the holiday season.

See the world as your self.
Have faith in the way things are.
Love the world as your self;
then you can care for all things.

I think it may be because in North America there are really only two release slots for blockbuster films: the Thanksgiving-to-Christmas holidays and summer, which runs May through July. HP wasn't ready for these holidays, so it had to be summer. (Late winter and early spring are studio dumping grounds for movies they think will fail or at least don't deserve any awards consideration; they're usually long forgotten by the time awards season begins, which is now.)
And it couldn't be May or June, because many children are still in school as late as the third week of June.
Hence the July release, which may also overlap with the release of the final book. The publicity machines can feed each other.
