Whew! Dodged a bullet. The LOTR films have certainly been deemed classics, and there are a number of good things in them, but the scripts are not one of those good things.

Some aspects of the scripts are very good, but mostly when they followed the book closely, and a few outliers like the lovely Feast of Starlight scene in the Desolation of Smaug.

Agreed that some some beauty shined through from time to time. The feast of starlight scene was the best invented scene across both LOTR and TH.

I agree, of course. But it is out-balanced by so many clunkers, not just of invented scenes but of classic scenes ruined by the watered down dialogue.

The Feast of Starlight scene is definitely a template that I would love to see the RoP showrunners follow. And while the early returns are positive, we just haven't seen enough to know whether that will be the exception or the rule.

Hmm. Since I couldn’t stomach hobbit 1, I didn’t see 2 and 3. So haven’t seen the scene. Maybe I should watch snippets.

I think it’s worth it. Despite having major issues with the whole trilogy, I think Hobbit 2 is much, much better than 1. Though the third movie is a total nightmare, except for the ending, which I enjoy.

But while I quite liked the Feast of Starlight scene, it was almost spoiled by creepy jealous Legolas standing there.

But to bring the discussion back on point, it does raise the question of whether we will see Legolas' grandfather Oropher or his father, Thranduil, at any point in the series?
