BBC to produce 8 part series of His Dark Materials!

Post by Alatar »

This is fantastic news. After the stellar job they made of Jonathan Strange, I can't wait!

I thought the Golden Compass movie was pretty good, but I guess they are going for the entire trilogy. IIRC, there were religious objections to what people felt was the message of the story. Maybe UK will have better luck with that.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

The problem with the Golden Compass Movie was they left out all the religious overtones, and most importantly the entire climax of the book!

I'm really looking forward to this and a pretext to reread the entire series.

The Golden Compass was okay for the first book where the underlying message (imho) does not yet play the role which it does play in the later parts. But there was no way to continue in this direction with the other parts to the book.

More news on this! It's a 40 episode 5 season arc with the first 8 episodes focussing on Northern Lights (The Golden Compass). Oh and Dafne Keen, the girl from the Logan move, will be playing Lyra! Also hearing rumours that Lee Scoresby will be Lin Manuel Miranda.

Oooooh!! I've seen one adaptation of The Golden Compass and was sad they didn't finish out the series. Looking forward to this!
The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.

"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

I didn't mind although didn't love the books, but I can see how they could be a nuisance to adapt. The trailer looks promising, but then, the New Line version had a promising trailer as well. But it certainly could be good.
