Night Watch spoilers ahead

Saw a Tumblr post with a theory that in Night Watch, young Sam Vimes assumed that John Keel was his long-absent father. (Looks like me, looks out for me, says he's from a distant city but actually knows my neighborhood very well, likes the same food I do but won't go to see my mum, etc.)

Which makes perfect sense, in that it's Vimesy clearly suspects something about Keel, and a long lost father is much more logical that me but from the future
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.
