That is a heartbreaking story. :( It puts me in mind of this video which I only saw for the first time a couple of weeks ago, although apparently it went viral sometime last year.

This link is humorous but have been told is fairly accurate. I just read it and leave you to judge. There is a tiny bit of saltiness in the language:

I split off the Deletion discussion to a separate thread. But I left it here in Lasto, rather than moving it to Nan Elmoth, because I didn't want anyone to think that the split was meant to be punitive in any way (not that it would be).

Very funny link, Tosh! :D

Anthy, next time . . . to the MOON, Anthy! :x
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

France is poised to become the next country to legalize same sex marriage, after the lower house of its parliament approved the bill in a 331-to-225 final vote. It still needs to be signed by President Francois Hollande, but he pledged his support for marriage equality in his campaign last year, so it should be a formality.

The UK could be next in line.

Meanwhile, back in the states, a bill to legalize same sex marriage passed the Deleware House yesterday by a 23-18 vote. Now it goes to the Senate. I don't know what its prospects are there, but Gov. Jack Markell has expressed support for marriage equality, so if it passes the Senate, it should become law.

I was looking at this a couple days ago because of Rhode Island when I noticed that all but 2 of the (currently) 11 states are in the northeast-iest part of the country. So now I'm taking special note of the ones outside of that apparently very gay friendly region. So a bit of an extra  :gladhug:  to the mid-western state of Minnesota. :)

(In a total unrelated note, why is the region in the central-north region called the Midwest? )

Because it's west of the East, but in the middle of the country.

Many of those states were "the western United States" for much of our country's history. The present southwestern states were part of Mexico, and the northwestern states were part of Canada (at least, they were British territory).

A lot of the Eastern media covers U.S. news as if this were still the case. :P

Yeah, but when they were the west, they weren't the mid. And by the time they were the mid, they were no longer the west. :P

The marriage equality bill has passed both houses of the Minnesota legislature, and the governor has indicated that he will sign it tomorrow.
