Alatar, this is just beautiful. It says as much about your daughter's talent as about you as a dad.

That's truly epic.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

That is so epic, I can't even . . . I can't . . . there aren't. . . .
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

I happen to like rats (rodents generally), so I found this cute as well as informative; if you're not a rats appreciator though, take this as a warning that you may be freaked out.

It's pretty funny/informative how much editing and music will completely change the feel of a piece of film.

So is Wyatt Scott in Parliament now, Jude? If not, are you worried he might attack?

I knew most of those already. Being part of the Commonwealth, Canada gets exposed to more of British culture than the U.S. does. We often get British T.V. series such as Call the Midwife, Downton Abbey, East Enders, Last of the Summer Wine and Doc Martin. The James Herriot series was also very popular in the past, and ran on several different stations.

If I wanted to pay a few extra bucks a month, I could actually subscribe to the BBC T.V. channel.
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

Actually most of those shows run in the States, too—a lot on public television and/or BBC America. They can be phenomenally popular, like Downton Abbey, or at least popular enough to become part of the culture, like Doctor Who. Others stay obscure but come back year after year for their devoted followers to enjoy. "Britcoms" run every Saturday evening on our state's public television station.

I wish it were easier to get Mrs. Brown's Boys here. I guess it's maybe a bit too much for Canadian and American censors (Mrs. Brown's favourite adjective is 'fecking', and one of her sons is openly gay) but I find it absolutely hilarious!

You should see American basic cable television these days, Sunny. . . . Mrs. Brown's Boys sounds pretty tame! :P

Adult humour warning: Mrs. Brown and the condom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqIEZCRjR_A

Mrs. Brown is actually played by a guy in drag. He's a terrific 'reactor'. Some of the funniest scenes I've seen are ones where he scarcely utters a word - the humour is all in his facial expression and body language. Here's a prime example:

Brendan O'Carroll is an Irish stand-up comic who developed the Mrs Brown character for a Radio series here. It got picked up in the UK and is making a fortune for him now. It helps that he often ad-libs and breaks the fourth wall, so his fellow actors are often struggling to keep their composure. Adds to the humour!

Here's a perfect example...they even mention the improvisation in the comment section: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbmLv-Iv0bw

Rory is the easiest one to get laughing, even though he's worked with Brendan for many years.
Rory is the easiest one to 'trip up' like this. The live stage show is exactly like this as well; we saw it in Brisbane (Australia) and there was an improvised moment (very common with Mrs Brown) in which he couldn't keep a straight face or say his lines for a good 5-7 minutes as Brendan kept dropping comments. It amazes me that after at least 20 years of working together (Rory has been his manager) Brendan can still make Rory Cowan laugh like a little girl on stage, you'd think he'd be used to Brendan's sense of humour and could predict him a little better. Still, it's this type of improvising that makes Mrs Browns Boys (especially the stage show) so funny, the actors must have a great time working together even after so many years.
