Why.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

I seem to remember something about the rights reverting if they don't keep them active.

This was already done long ago, right? As a fan-made thing?

Edit: Yes, and WB is evidently taking aggressive take-down action against it.

My understanding (which I have not researched fully) is that this is a whole new licensing agreement that WB/NL entered into with the new rights-holder, Embracer, after the latter purchased the rights from Saul Zaentz' company (whatever it was called at the time).

I'm glad they've restored the fan film, but I'm not sure I buy the "it was a mistake" angle, unless the mistake was "we failed to anticipate the fan response". :V But yeah, the 2009 version was the first thing I thought of. I hope they at least change the working title for this new film.

I know this has been mentioned in other threads, but it might be nice to have one location to discuss.

Good idea. Should I move the other posts to this thread?

Not thrilled with this. I thought War of the Rohirrim was a tasteful way to continue making movies, possibly leading to an animated anthology series about less-known parts of the Third Age. This comes across as just a cash-in - remember the abandoned Hobbit "bridge film"? Admittedly it might be nice to see Serkis in action again though.

It will probably become a culture war icon for really stupid reasons just because it isn't Amazon though.
