I have improved! I've improved on Spelling bee too. But I didn't play a lot of games as a child and I'm not a natural and have to work on it. I have to find things to keep my aging brain moving.

I didn't even know there was a hard mode

I think the regular mode is challenging enough.

After reading the instructions for 'hard mode' I think it's hard in a different way and now I see why some people play the way they do. This article believes that 'hard mode' is easier and that one was likely to find the correct answer more quickly but I dunno.. if you have _aunt it could be jaunt, daunt, taunt, vaunt, gaunt and any other '_aunt' I'm forgetting. The strategy is different.

I wouldn't call hard mode easier. It does usually result in finding the word with fewer guesses, but that's not the same thing. Because I spend much more time on those guesses, hard mode is slower for me than the way I used to play. As you say, it's a different strategy since you're voluntarily restricting your ability to gather information by making knowingly incorrect guesses. Though it's not entirely given up: you can still make guesses that are clearly wrong by reusing letters you already know aren't in the answer. Hello Wordl's "Ultra Hard" mode goes that extra step, but I've only played it a few times because I find it too difficult to be fun. Though maybe I'll feel differently after enough time spent playing on regular hard mode!

This is what I found.

Why Hard Mode is actually beneficial to players
Hard Mode may sound difficult, but it is actually a helpful way to make sure you get to the right word quicker. The new additional rule ensures that you don’t use up your six guesses with redundant words. By forcing you to implement correct letters from previous guesses, the rule actually increases the chances of your next guess being the right word.

Even if it isn’t, you could land a couple more yellow and green letters, which again will need to be used in the next chance. This will let you focus your guesses on words that could be right and improve your overall experience.

Have you personally found that to be true V? I have found process of elimination and what doesn't work/letter placement to be a good strategic tools.

ETA: of course not everyone wants to spend the time I do trying to determine the word list options/letter placement.
