Nature Pics
Re: Nature Pics
Pretty deer.
I’m taking an easy day today (submitted a paper yesterday which was brutal). Relaxed in Central Park. That’s the tree I lay under in Strawberry fields (John Lennon’s memorial). And couple of birds…

We've visited Strawberry fields. Lovely area. YAY! That your paper is done, Inanna.
A photo from our bike ride today. It is a simply gorgeous day.

Lovely photos, both of you!
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

I must say the ears of both the does are quite…. Striking.

Aww. That's a young one, V.
(The better to hear you with Inanna) We have white tail deer here, I'm not sure if there are mule deer where V lives, they have large ears. I'd guess the one in V's photo is less than a year old, you can still see some spots.

Yes, the mother was there too but I didn't get a shot of both of them.

Ah. Reminds me of Willow of the long name.

Re: Nature Pics
It's a black squirrel-cat
Actually it is a very dark squirrel, perhaps escaped from Mirkwood, masquerading as a cat in a tree.

Re: Nature Pics
I think it looks a bit like a horse-squirrel. We have horseflies so.. perhaps not such a great stretch as one might think.

Nature's first green is gold...
In this case it seems it is its last as well.

Irika & I are in Chicago. I had 2 back-to-back easy conferences with empty days in between. So, we are having a mom-daughter vacation. We landed yesterday and had a lovely evening.

Aww, in normal, pre-Covid times I might have traveled down to mini-moot with you. I met up with another TORc'er (Mithluin) who was there for a conference years ago. I think we ate at the Blue elephant. Very good. And of course there was the moot of 2008.
Enjoy your time in Chi-town. If you want to try a Chicago deep dish pizza, I'd recommend the butter crust at Lou Malnati's.

(I'm going to need to split this up since there appears to be an unwritten 3 attachments per post rule)
I just got back from a trip to Michigan's upper peninsula. Tons of natural beauty up there, but here are some highlights:

These are the lower falls

And these are the upper. No one would volunteer to dive to the bottom for scale so it's hard to tell, but these falls are nearly 50 feet high and the third-largest you can find in the eastern US after Niagra and something else in New York.
