Re: Nature Pics
When we first saw the hawk it was diving at the green heron. But the heron got away and we saw it later

Cool!
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

Re: Nature Pics
I am told by someone who knows more than I do that the hawk is not a red shouldered, as I thought, but an adult Cooper's Hawk.

Re: Nature Pics
Aww. A partridge (?) We don't get those around here. I saw some sandhill cranes in the neighborhood but I didn't have my phone with me. They were probably too far away to get a decent photo anyway. My new phone takes good photos but does not have a decent zoom.

Re: Nature Pics
I think it's California quail. Maybe??? I haven't seen them around here in years.
Great shot, V.

Re: Nature Pics
I see great blue herons down in Santa Cruz fairly often, but very rarely up here, and I've never seen one flying and landing up in a tree like that.

Just read on npr, that the Monarch butterfly is now an endangered species.

Re: Nature Pics
My daughter and I were on a walk today and she was telling me how she'd seen a deer in this spot the night before and low and behold it stepped out of the woods as if on cue. It was quite close (maybe 20 feet or so) although you'd never know it by the crappy zoom feature on my new phone.
