Not an Elvish one, no.

No and no!

I've only read UT twice or three times, and the last was over 20 years ago. Not gonna be much help here.

I guess I'll just stick to the big 3 in the future.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Slightly off-topic: If I post a quote by a Nazgûl and somebody asks if it was spoken by a man, should I say yes? I suppose I could say "spoken by a former man", but that might make it too easy.
Ditto for the Mouth of Sauron.

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I believe the Mouth of Sauron was actually just a man, though.
For Nazgûl I'd say the gravedigger from Hamlet addressed that question admirably
... Is "their" referring to an actual Kindred of people? Or is this more obscure than that?Eldy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 5:51 am Quoting for the new page:

The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

Found it.
Olórin to Galadriel, in The Elessar.
"Their eyes are not dimmed nor their hearts hardened. In token of which look upon this!"

The Elessar!
With regard to your question, if it were me, I would feel duty-bound to say that it was a former man or something like that, even if it was more of a hint than I wanted to give.
Your turn, Inanna!

I’m so curious about this original quote. What did JRRT call it, V?Voronwë the Faithful wrote:The answer to the first question is yes.
The answer to the second is complicated. In the translation it does. In the original, it does not really, even though the original quote is about something that could be described as a token.
