Oh.. I was going to buy tickets for Hamilton for my hubby's birthday.. but rap.. *twitch*. Rap & Country really grate on my nerves. I'll have a listen before buying tickets. Thanks for the tip Alatar!

Sunny.. I agree.. 'Phantom of the Opera' is simply sublime. It took a very long time to get that out of my head and I didn't mind a bit. We saw 'Phantom', 'Wicked' and 'Beauty & the Beast' years ago when we went to New York.

I don't like rap either, but Hamilton is transcendent.

Yeah, I was giving it a listen and I didn't mind the 'rappiness' of what I heard. We might give it a go. Reading the lyrics in advance is a good idea too.

Anyone who was on TOB will be surprised to hear me singing Puccini

Yes, Puccini is not my favourite composer, but every once in a while he just nails it. Like in this moment from La Fanciulla del West. Dick Johnson is about to be hanged (or so he thinks) and is asked if he has anything to say before they proceed. He asks that they don't tell Minnie (the soprano character) what has happened to him:

"Let her believe that I am free and far away,
Following a new path of redemption.
She will wait for me to return,
And the days will pass,
And the days will pass, and I won't return.

Minnie, the only joy of my life...
Minnie, who has loved me so much!"

Disclaimer: because of the pandemic, I had to play piano and sing at the same time, something I never thought I could do. It's not my best singing or my best playing, but it's my best (only!) example of attempting both at once :D

Oh bravo! You did it! Lovely!
The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.

"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

I'm glad they're starting up again, but it'll be a long time before I can get back. :)

I was going to say it was impressive how many big-name actors they managed to book, but I suppose they haven't had much else to do.

So I saw "in the Heights" twice over the weekend. My first impression was that, while it was a lovely movie, I was disappointed at the major changes to the plot of the musical. On second viewing, being aware of the changes in advance, I adored it. Much like V said about the Tolkien biopic, it's not a movie of the stage musical in terms of accuracy, but it feels so right. Gorgeous movie and everyone should see it.

Since Al is not singing his own praises, I'm going to do it for him.

Congratulations, Martin! Well done!
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

That's quite and undertaking and an accomplishment Alatar!! Congratulations!

'Phantom' was the first Broadway play I saw. I absolutely adored it. The music was in my head for weeks.

Looks like you've made quite an impression! Bravo.

I gotta ask, did you have the falling chandelier?

I saw Phantom in Vegas. Lots of fun.
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.
