When the Wargs attack after the Fellowship has retreated from Caradhras.
‘Fling fuel on the fire!’ cried Gandalf to the hobbits. ‘Draw your blades, and stand back to back!’

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
I have found recently that TranslationParty either barely changes something, or changes it to something completely unrecognizable.
After I tried one that barely changed at all and was too easy, I tried:
You know, then, what this thing is?
I got:
It was Hector.
And in only two iterations. It first went to "So what is this?" and then immediately changed to "It was Hector." No question mark. How is that even possible?
I'll try again.

Nope!
Here is a hint. It is someone speaking (or just thinking) to themself.

Much later. Your first guess was much closer in time. Looking at the Tale of Years, I think it slightly after Shelob's Lair chronologically-speaking.

So… not related to Frodo & Sam, then.
Aragorn?
Aragorn?

Hang on, no. “Paths of the Dead” is before Shelob, right?

Not related to Frodo, Sam, Aragorn, or the Paths of the Dead.

Denethor?
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

Merry following Théoden and Éowyn’s bodies through the streets of Gondor, gets despondent, physically lost as well, and thinks to himself:
“This is a tunnel, leading to a tomb; there we shall stay for ever.”
