The Tolkien Translation Game!
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is Saruman the master?
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
No, but he’s relevant to the quote.
'You just said "your getting shorter": you've obviously been drinking too much ent-draught and not enough Prim's.' - Jude
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is it from the dialogue between Wormtongue and the Nazgûl? Only I skimmed through it and nothing stood out.
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
The Nazgûl are being spoken to, but the speaker is not Wormtongue. It is someone with whom Wormtongue has the same relationship as being specified in the quote.
And UT, remember.

The Speaker is Saruman after Gandalf has escaped:
"Go with speed, and I will report to your Master that you have done so"

Correct. Your turn.

Also from UT:
"He was also worried, so he actually asked for advice."

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is this Gandalf, referring to Thorin?
He was troubled too, so troubled that he actually asked for my advice.
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
New quote:
He ran away from the orcs, but I don't think he ran away.

Concerning Frodo?

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Aragorn concerning Merry or Pippin being dragged across Rohan by a band of orcs?
The dumbest thing I've ever bought
was a 2020 planner.
"Does anyone ever think about Denethor, the guy driven to madness by staying up late into the night alone in the dark staring at a flickering device he believed revealed unvarnished truth about the outside word, but which in fact showed mostly manipulated media created by a hostile power committed to portraying nothing but bad news framed in the worst possible way in order to sap hope, courage, and the will to go on? Seems like he's someone we should think about." - Dave_LF

Yes to Inanna, no to elengil.
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Another hint needed?
It's interesting how re-ordering the words can change the meaning quite a bit...

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Is it Aragorn to Legolas and Gimli, talking about Frodo: ‘He fled, certainly,’ said Aragorn, ‘but not, I think, from Orcs.’
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
That's the one!
See how each clause of the sentence ended up meaning pretty much the opposite of the original?
Your turn!

And yet the language was so similar that I immediately recognized it.
New quote:
Even in their time, I see that everything they do ends up in the glory of my work.

I don't recognize the quote, but it just sounded like something he would say
