My Family's Slave
Absolutely fascinating article in The Atlantic.

Interestingly, while Filipino commentators seem to applaud the author, American commentators are deriding him for being "complicit".

I read that yesterday. It stayed with me all day and into the night.
I did not read any comments on it.
There's a whole lot that I could say about it, but my thoughts are not marshaled. I expect that it would be a difficult conversation to have with many people, because to have any kind of in depth discussion about it you need to go down to the roots, and people's roots are not all buried in the same soil. When you discuss something deep with someone who grew from different soil, it is hard to have meaningful discussion, because you have less common language. The words may be the same, but the meaning is not.

I'm glad I read that. But I prefer to stay far away from the comment section, as always.
Re: My Family's Slave
That was quite disturbing.

That was very poignant. What a complicated situation. That story will linger with me for a long time....
