If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

Me too, other than Tauriel, which I think was a lost opportunity.Primula Baggins wrote:I like all of the images except for that of Legolas.
This demonstrates the difficulty in portraying beings that are supposed to be immortal (essentially), ethereal humanoids. Even succeeding generates complaints.Frelga wrote:And there's almost an uncanny valley effect from an adult face that is 100% free of all signs of aging.

There is magic in long-distance friendships. They let you relate to other human beings in a way that goes beyond being physically together and is often more profound.

I guess that means you like it?

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Well, not quite as much as this one...
but it's certainly an improvement on the Legolas poster!

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
thanks Elen for that link. It looks like some giant trolls will be on the battlefields. And I hope some enterprising company issues those battle standards as memorabilia. Is that part of Dol Guldur in flames i see or is it something else?
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.... John Rogers

Here's Bilbo (my favorite of the character posters):
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."
Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
If you are referring to the structure to the right of Bilbo's left shoulder, I'm thinking it is possibly Ravenhill - it looks similar to the glimpse we caught of it in the AUJ prologue...sauronsfinger wrote:thanks Elen for that link. Great poster of Bilbo, V - Martin has such a wonderful, characterful face...
ETA: And here's the complete set...

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
That's a little wide, but it's nice to have them all together like that, so unless someone complains about the page stretching, I would say let's leave it like that.
I find that I dislike the Legolas one less in that small size and with the others. But not the Tauriel one; I still think it is terrible.

Yes, agreed...Legolas looks slightly less scary, but Tauriel looks so plastic and doll-like, IMO.

Yes, that really stands out. What popped into my mind is "'Ow do yeh know 'e's a king?"
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Question: who intends to obtain these posters?
I ask because there are SO MANY of them. One could not physically display them all (okay, in theory one could wallpaper the house with them, but I'm assuming I'm not posting with hermit loonies), so if one does obtain them all, they would not really be seen.
Pardon my typos - tiny phone keyboard probs.

I see a lot of movie theaters put up stuff like this for big movies. It's more of an ad thing then a fan merch thing, I'd think.

I would secretly like to be a hermit loony, and paper my study with the promo posters for LoTR and Hobbit, which is the real reason I asked the question.

The first one, OMG, must have on my wall! [I'm getting a real SIL vibe from that shot...you can just imagine how incredible it could be!]
The second, not so much..... Not really getting this idea of Galadriel grieving over a possibly dead Maia... unless it's supposed to be a nod to how she rescued and healed Gandalf after his battle with the Balrog at the top of Durin's Stair?

Yes, I meant "here ya go, Elen" for the first one, and added the other one for completeness, trying (unsuccessfully) to imply that it was an also-ran.

I like this, but I think the lighting is off:
This definitely give me hope that Thorin's oncoming madness will be handled more subtly than Denethor's.
