Beautiful! Are you there?

Was there. The Pics are from yesterday (Sat). Am home now.

Will post more!

The altitude sickness and the temperature changes abs dehydration did a number on me though.

Altitude sickness can be very serious. I'm glad you're safely home.

The last time we were up in Rocky Mountain National Park, we took a walk around a small lake way up at about 9000 feet, and it was such a surreal experience. Something was going wrong in my brain at that altitude, and as we walked around on the small hiking trail, everything felt a bit wobbly and unreal. I wasn't dizzy, but it felt like I should be... if that makes any sense? And the colors and textures of everything seemed a bit weird.

Later on up at the top of one of the 14ers, my older daughter took our picture, and both my and my husband's eyes and faces were puffed out slightly. Like a deep sea fish pulled up into the air.....

That is the *last* time we let her take us UP anywhere from Denver. Denver was bad enough at 5000 feet. It was after that I finally read up on altitude sickness and realized we could have died from that.

Did you leave yesterday behind you? Did you find a key for every door? Did you see it raining fire in the sky?

I watched an interview with John Denver a while back and I believe he said he wrote that song on his first trip to the Rocky Mountains. They were camping with friends next to a lake and it was surreal and beautiful. I have a feeling they were taking in more than just the altitude, however. It was the '70's.

Edited to add: In 1985 Denver testified before Congress (in response to those who deemed the song to be about drugs)
"This was obviously done by people who had never seen or been to the Rocky Mountains, and also had never experienced the elation, celebration of life or the joy in living that one feels when he observes something as wondrous as the Perseid meteor shower on a moonless, cloudless night, when there are so many stars that you have a shadow from the starlight, and you are out camping with your friends, your best friends, and introducing them to one of nature's most spectacular light shows for the first time."

This is the largest and the oldest of the trees in the Henry Cowell State Park, about six miles down the road from us.

It's estimated to be about 1500 year old, and is approximately 277 feet tall.

Jude, Redwood trees do send out new shoots, but I don't know how often.
