"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Not my pics (needless disclaimer) but some are so beautiful.

Also, pics of free climbing are awe-inspiring.

Mornings wouldn't suck so badly if they came later in the day.

I have to give Cloud's Rest it's due place. Had we done our original backpack plan, we would have crossed across that thing with full packs, including the narrow strip at the top. I'm kinda glad we didn't do that!

“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

My daughter drove up into the Cascades with some friends and got this picture of Sahalie Falls:
You'll have to take my word for it that it really is that green here.

It's hard to convey with photos. When the light is right, especially on cloudy days, it really does glow like that.
I haven't been up that mountain road in a while, though . . . need to go see those falls again for myself!
