Jews. It means Jews.

Just to clarify.
It used to. I think the term got co-opted by the alt-right (that's the PC term, right?) and now includes Jews but also encompasses enough people to win Biden >76 million votes.

Cerin, when people whose points you are repeating use the term, they use it in the context of spreading malicious conspiracy theories in which the world is secretly run by a Jewish cabal. If you were not aware of this before, now you are and can make choices about how you will use your words.

I wouldn't dream of modifying my use of words based on what someone tells me other people say. I know what I mean by the words I use, and I have stated what I mean as clearly as I am able, and that is an end of the matter to me.

Communication is a two-way street. If you mean one thing by what you say, but your audience hears something else, then you are failing to communicate. How you choose to handle that failure is up to you. But you should be aware that I also immediately hear "Jew"at the use of that phrase, even though I knew it was very unlikely your intent.

Yeah, now that Frelga posted her explainer I am making the connection. The phrase wasn't co-opted. It was mainstreamed.

Cerin, I realize that you do not realize how offensive your posting is. Please believe me that it is extremely offensive, and frankly, I won't tolerate it.

Decision Desk HQ decided it's time to call AZ for Biden (they actually did this last night, but I didn't notice until Nate Cohn pointed it out):

Hopefully the remaining networks will soon feel it is safe to follow suit.

I have this image of a statistician meeting, and the guys who do the election calls go out for beer, and AZ comes up, and the ribbing starts, and the Fox and AP guys keep pointing out that yeah, they were early, but they were also right. I can even visualize the smirking.

Probably a sign I've spent way too much time around nerds. :P

So, you are banning the term 'global elite,' or what, exactly?

I lurked on Nate Cohn and Nate Silver's Twitter feeds.

I realize I am, in many ways, a hopeless case. My freak flag's been snapping in the wind for longer than y'all have been posting with me. :help:

I'm telling you to stop using insulting language. Period.

There is nothing insulting about 'global elite.'

global
1 a : of, relating to, or involving the entire world

elite

1 d : a group of persons who by virtue of position or education exercise much power or influence in a society

According to Chambliss (2015), the term “global elite” is defined as a trans-global class of professionals who exercise considerable economic and political power that is not limited by national borders.

Voronwë, I've checked the control panel and can't find a way to de-member myself. Could you please remove me from membership? Thanks.

Wow, that's about the most tone-deaf thing I've ever read on this board! :nono:

Ciao!
When the night has been too lonely, and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember in the winter far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring becomes The Rose.

I'm not going to remove you from the membership. You are, of course, welcome to stay away, but I would prefer that you continue to post, if you can do so respectfully.

I gotta say, I do hate how this board has never managed to keep people with more right-leaning thoughts posting around here. Another one bites the dust. Ah well.

There was nothing disrespectful about my post.

Please honor my request to be removed from membership. It was my choice to join, it should be my choice to un-join.
