I have to hand it to Trump. He had no support from the Republican leadership, the political establishment and most of the media was against him, he was out-fundraised by something like 2-to-1, he received 25 newspaper endorsements to Clinton's 500, he was up against a very well-funded and well-organised campaign, and he's within striking distance of the presidency. That's a massive achievement.

If the Sanders die-hards are feeling annoyed tonight, I don't blame them. We'll never know if he would have done better, but it's also impossible to refute that claim.

Also, if it is a Trump presidency, he'll have a Republican House and Senate. IIRC, that'll be the first time the same party has controlled all three institutions since 2006.

That would be my cue to leave. I won't stay in a fascist country. The only question is where.

Everything (edit: in the midwest), including the Senate races, is going way redder than predicted. Pollster heads are going to roll.

To be honest, I actually think a Trump Presidency would become normal very quickly. The stock markets crashed with Brexit but have since recovered, and it's now become a fairly mundane prospect. Other anti-establishment politicians who have won in upsets have also become much more mainstream once embedded within the institutions of government. After all, the government is very large and doesn't change overnight, and has a habit of enculturating those who join it. In retrospect, a Trump victory would probably look no different to any other election.

Unlike Hitler, Trump doesn't have any strong beliefs, Ax. Nevertheless.... FML.

He may not have any strong beliefs, but the "people" around him do.

So, possibilities for emigration: Canada (when their site comes back up), Ireland (if I can figure their site out), NZ (if I win the lottery), Scotland (if they get out from under the whole UK Brexit BS). Australia if I can overcome my phobia of venomous things.

Yep. Why are people so surprised?

Come on down, Ax. I haven't ever encountered a venomous thing in all my years here.

“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

AP calls Pennsylvania for Trump, which means it's over tonight, against my earlier expectations. Trump is the first Republican to win the Keystone State since 1988. If he wins Wisconsin, which is also looking likely, he'll be the first Republican to win there since 1984.
