YLDTLMGITY?

ALITTTFOTR?

POTD?

I'm very much enjoying reading this thread (and also the AUJ EE one), but those three have me seriously stumped!

:)

...The first 30+ seconds were acappela, highly unusual for any kind of "pop" song. It uses very little instrumentation for the first half, until the violin comes in...but even then, it remains folk-like in feel. It is almost entirely acoustic, has a modal tonality (in fact, it switches ba...

A couple of years ago we were travelling in Canada and I dearly wanted to see a bear. We saw evidence of bears on trees (big scratch marks), people we spoke with assured us 'oh yes, there are bears around here', I saw intriguing bear-proof rubbish bins, and millions of bear images in souvenir shops....

A bear! Wonderful!

These are all fabulous pictures. I do love this thread. :)

In NSW we had 110 candidates. I know this, because I, too, am an always-below-the-line voter. I agree about the concession/victory speeches. And - given my previously expressed feelings about Rudd - 20 minutes of him was 20 minutes too much. But I'm equally divided in my disgust. We now have a Coali...

The Tuolumne Falls are spectacular, Voronwë! And are there caves in the rock face?

Lovely pictures, Imp. Also love the name (Bugaboos...) :)

That's brilliant, Jude! Both the canon and the animation, very clever. :)

Many congratulations to Howard Shore on the music to LotR yet again being voted #1 on their top 100 Movie Music chart and the soundtrack to TH:AUJ coming in at #9. A great testimony to the power and beauty of those scores... I agree, Elen. In many ways I think that the score is a greater ach...

Voronwë - I've never been to Yosemite, and if I'm honest it's unlikely I ever will. But these pictures make me feel as if I've stood and looked at those peaks with my own eyes. Beautiful!

Good point, Lali. I was kind of hoping that - within the constraints of maintaining the integrity of the 'inner' doctor - they'd be a bit more adventurous with the externals. Plus while David Tennant is rather renowned for being able to squash his own accent down, Capaldi is pure Glasgow, which (bas...

I was really pleased to hear that Peter Capaldi will be the next Doctor. Sorry as I am to see Matt Smith go (and I'd, initially, had some serious doubts about him, though was eventually reconciled), Capaldi has that 'darkness' by the bucket load.

Plus, Scottish accent. Always a bonus. :)

I can lend you the remainder of the books, Imp - I'll bring them down for you next time I'm in Melbourne. :) I liked the Winston Graham books somewhat better than the 1970s mini-series, though that's not to say I didn't enjoy that when I was a young and terribly romantic teenager. I think it was my ...

Lord M, I'm still processing the events of the past couple of days so will come back later with a more pithy response. This might be me pretty clearly showing my political colours, but I'm absolutely outraged by it all, actually. Not just the recent spill, but the whole tenor of political discourse ...

I wanted to add a 'me too' here. Narya posted something about two months ago in real time (though I only read it the other day), which I think captures exactly where I'm coming from as well. So 'hear, hear' to the distinctions in how we engage with this board (and the internet in general), and how t...

The butterflies! The dragon! But... The CGI is rather overpowering. And I agree about overuse of Azog and the very existence of Tauriel. None of the groany bits are enough to stop me looking forward to seeing the film, mind you. I'm pretty sure there will be enough moments of brilliance (butterflies...

I don't want to stop - I'm having too much fun (even with the prospect of a giant spider ahead of me!) Definitely would play more than one game at a time. :) Just one thing, I'm in the middle of packing up to move house (=absolute chaos) so would it be possible to swap turns with Ethelwynne? Things ...

Oh my. I have no recollection of the dietary preferences of Elves - and particularly this one. None whatsoever.

I'll hazard a guess at wine...

(And thanks for giving me a second chance :) )
