The problem with German model is it's very hard to change tracks once you're on one. Yugoslavia had a system like that pre-civil war (I have no idea what they do now). S thought he didn't want to go to university so he took the technical track...and then decided he wanted to go to university after a...

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed by that move too yov. I wasn't surprised - Obama made it pretty clear he was going to renege on that pledge months ago - but I'm still disappointed. OTOH, he's in the position he's in, where he's better off without the public funding, not because of a handful of very w...

Why? What happened? I knew it was political shenanigans but the exact nature is escaping me right now. Care to share your epiphany?Mahima wrote:I finally understood, last night, why the US Attorneys had been fired. Am so shocked! I can't believe it.
How can anyone defend the Bush administration after this?

Maybe the same crap that happens to me? :D Actually, I generally don't have problems with security. Every other step, from getting ticketed to getting out of the airport at journey's end, is liable to go haywire on me, but I *usually* make it through security just fine. I'm not kidding about the bac...

Well, I suddenly need to have my background checked to do the job I've been doing since May 2004 and that seems a mite fishy. The reason? I work with chemicals. I wonder what will happen when they find out I'm certified as a radiation worker as well. I can work with chemicals, radioisotopes AND x-ra...

hal, science is based on empirical observations. Experimentation is a means of testing hypotheses or even making observations, but experimentation is not the be all/end all of the scientific method. That said, computer modeling itself is a form of experimentation, a very powerful method if you do it...

It's more likely a convolution of a nature and man - the current rate of warming is unprecedented, as is the current rate of CO2 increase in the atmosphere. By reducing our end of the problem, we might pull out of this with something we recognize as human society intact. And, as has been mentioned b...

And if he or she (because women scientists commit fraud too :P) is prominent enough, it makes headlines. A massive fraud case takes down everyone the scientist in question trained as well - even the one that blew the whistle. You can do a lot of things with math, but you have to disclose said math i...

Er...I live there. So does the rest of the lab, except the guy whose wife works in Lakewood. He commutes in by bus - the parking around here just isn't worth it (I've never heard of a university that didn't have that problem). One of my labmates even owns his place. As does the boss, but that's not ...
