Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Now that it's been explained to me, that it works without results being leaked, I can see the sense of beginning counting early. (The article Voronwë posted explained that the suit in question was about the procedures being used in that particular case).

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

The Supreme Court has ruled 5-3 that ballots in Wisconsin must be in by election day, not six days after. Presumably, the principle will hold across the board when the other state cases reach the court. I'm tremendously relieved by this, because having ballots come in for days would have guaranteed ...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Meanwhile more attempts to suppress the vote in an important swing state. Trump campaign asks court to block early vote counting in Nevada Those who favor early counting of votes, why do you favor that? I think counting should begin in a given locale after voting concludes in that locale, on the ba...

Re: US Supreme Court Discussions

I'm hearing/reading that the Dems on the Judiciary Committee will boycott tomorrow's session. That would mean not only forfeiting the opportunity to read statements into the record (I understand there are several hours set aside for that before the vote), but allowing Republicans to do so uninterrup...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Voronwë, I was responding specifically to elengil's proposal, that the reason for Texas limiting the number of boxes to one per county was to set up 'consolidated targets.' In that case, it would be a larger number of ballots being destroyed from a variety of areas and constituencies; so once again ...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

elengil, that statement (consolidated targets) makes no sense to me. Just who would have an interest in destroying ballots without knowing which candidate they favored? edit The only reason I can think of to destroy ballot boxes would be to get people who are ready to blame every nefarious action on...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

When I was babysitter age, I could not understand why my young charges adored Mr. Rogers. He seemed so limp and deadpan to me. But then I had a child of my own, and he adored Mr. Rogers, too. In fact, he would put on his suit jacket in advance of the show, and walk through the swinging french doors ...

Here is the actual tweet. "Well @JoeBiden @ABCPolitics townhall feels like I am watching an episode of Mister Rodgers(sp) Neighborhood." Interpreting the tweet as a Trump supporter comparing Biden to a universally beloved, respected icon who devoted his life to making children feel loved a...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Trump believes comparing Biden to Mr. Rogers is a dis too horrible to contemplate. The thought of an honest, kind, and decent man just baffles him. It was a Trump advisor who tweeted that watching the Biden Town Hall was like watching Mr. Rogers. I believe she was widely misinterpreted, and meant n...

Re: US Supreme Court Discussions

The Senate committee hearing on Amy Barrett is the most disjointed hearing I've ever listened to. Evidently the Democrats have decided that since they cannot stop the appointment, and because they don't want to leave a bad impression in voters' minds by attacking Barrett's religious beliefs, they wo...

Re: Escaping the Echo Chamber

It’s called Escaping the Echo Chamber Cerin. You’re supposed to challenge your preconceptions, not double down on them. The base idiocy and arrogance of a claim to know what each individual of a given race is thinking while reading scripture precludes going any further with the exercise. edit I gue...

Re: Escaping the Echo Chamber

I wonder how this woman knows what each white individual is thinking while they read scripture?

Neat trick. She must be god! I'd better subscribe to her Facebook page so I don't miss any more pearls of wisdom.

I have heard that one of the peculiarities of this disease is that patients show extremely low oxygen levels, but that those low levels don't indicate what they normally would (like, imminent death).

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

So a quick googling ('why is Mark Meadows freaking out') brings up quite a few stories about his emotional outbursts and difficulty transitioning to Chief of Staff. Pure speculation: Maybe he's having some kind of breakdown or wants to be fired.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Meadows' behavior is certainly curious. What are the possible reasons he could be putting out a different story than everyone else? I can't think of any that make sense, presuming his interests are in line with the administration's.
