yov, I am on vacation this week, so if you want to head up here, I'll gladly buy you a ticket to the movie. Heck I can even treat for lunch and make dinner.

I don't necessarily dislike the fact that PJ expanded the Hobbit to encompass a larger story. Sure I would have liked to see a simple Hobbit story, but I don't think it would have played as well coming on the heels of LOTR. If the Hobbit were made first, then I think the movie could have been made s...

But I’ve got one personal thing that I love that I wish was in there and you’ll see it, it’s a little thing between Bilbo and Elrond. It’s probably, within the context of the greater whole, the six films; it’s going to work really beautifully when you see Bilbo in Rivendell in Lord of the Rings. So...

If the giants were seen from a distance and not some kind of Disney ride, I would have minded it a lot less.

He was visually odd. The cavern they were in was far too large, but I liked him up until his final line.

I would be curious to see a PJ "home movie" adaptation of Tolkien without the studio or audience "demands". I wonder how different the movies would be and how the aforementioned demands would affect his vision for bringing Tolkien to the screen. I didn't hate the fact that Azog w...

Meh. He can spin it any way he wants, but in the end, it comes down to 33% more revenue.

Which begs the question of why it is there in the first place if there wasn't any reference to it. Surely there has to be a better way of distinguishing between dwarfs than embedding an ax in a skull. I just don't get it. I'll be doing the HFR viewing sometime next week probably. I'm glad I saw them...

My Mom, who has never read the book and is completely unfamiliar with the story, had no problem figuring out that they were all dwarves. Your mom is a pretty smart lady. :) And I wasn't trying to say it was impossible to parse it out; I was saying that there was a really wide disparity in the way t...

Ha! In a revisionist's version maybe. That was PJ dictating tone. There wasn't even a hint of frivolity there. :P

:suspicious:
I think PJ missed most of what Tolkien was about, but during the songs, I think he managed to capture some of the essence that was missing in the movies.

There was a section of the film that had Bilbo regretting the loss of Bag End, but it was kind of glossed over and it played third fiddle at best.

I don't think anyone's posted this review from The Economist yet... “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy was close to perfect, and it has the Oscars and diehard fans to prove it. In “The Hobbit” Mr Jackson seems to have let his love for the material blind him to the merits of a simpler story. The result...

At no time during our viewing did Rebecca see anything in 3D.
That is just how she is wired. I suspect there are people having issues seeing this film in 48fps, because it is just too fast for their brains to recognize. My issue may be associating the film with video.
We'll see.

We just saw it again for the 2nd time. This time in 3D, but not HFR. There were two screens showing it in 2D and two screens showing it in 3D (none with HFR). It was 4 o'clock on a rainy Sunday afternoon and there were 17 people in the theater. Pretty much the same amount as the noon showing yesterd...

Saw it today in 2D. Going to try to see it in 3D tomorrow. I liked it overall. I thought it was a good movie. There were some things that I really didn't like too much, but overall it was pretty good. Except..... Apparently Radagast never got the memo; "To get back to the warning that I receive...

Whereas I hated Hitchhiker, I haven't seen anything else with Freeman in it, and what I have seen from him as Bilbo is virtually straight out of my imagination. Well of course, each to his or her own. No two people that have held Tolkien's works dear are going to envision them in the same way. Yet ...

Martin Freeman is someone who I adored as Dent Arthur Dent, and someone who I admire as Dr Watson. From what I have seen at this point (it isn't a whole lot) I'm not overly thrilled that Freeman is portraying Bilbo. I'm not sure of the right way to phrase it, but it seems like this is Freeman playin...
