I liked it a great deal, too. Honestly, sf, I couldn't think of a less valuable tool for choosing a presidential candidate. soli, thanks for sharing that article. At the very least, it is helpful to know the thoughts behind the thinking of those who think differently than I do. There was much in tha...

Actually that's not at all what is happening, Al. If anything, it has been the lawyers for the Estate that have been playing "legal games" to try to make it seem as if it is something that it is not, and the lawyers for New Line that have been playing it straight (at least in my profession...

Me too! Although I really did have quite a special writing instructor back when I was in college. Her name was Berry Morgan . She was quite eccentric, and insisted on calling me by my middle name, Charles, and had me go by the name "D. Charles Kane". She was a lot more enthusiastic about m...

An interesting take on Obama from former fan David Brooks of the NY Times:

Okay, some more information. First of all, the hearing date is September 22, a rather auspicious date. And I think New Line still makes a compelling case on the fraud cause of action. They included the relevant portion of the hearing on the first demurrer, so I got to read the judge's thoughts on th...

As I predicted, New Line has filed a new demurrer to the First Amended Complaint, challenging the revamped Fraud cause of action, along with a Motion to Strike punitive damages. No hearing date has been posted on the web site yet, but I'm sure that it will be soon.

This chapter showcases an aspect of the character of the story that I think is immensely satisfying, and that is the relief Tolkien always provides in respite and sanctuary from the terrifying dangers that beset the characters. The contrast here between the darkness and the simple, homey, earthy co...

Al, :P Prim, I agree with you that the vast majority of the writing that is published is much more align to Tolkien's approach. I'm not sure I can agree with that, AJ and Prim. Unless the creative writing classes that I took back in the day are completely ignored by most published authors. But I bow...

There was a big demonstration here in response in which a bunch of animal rights activists demonstrated against the firebombings.

It certainly is true of some radical animal rights activists. Just this past weekend, right here in Santa Cruz, some of them firebombed the homes of two University of California at Santa Cruz biologists who have done animal research, injuring one. (link)

A nation healed! A world repaired! We are the ones we've been waiting for! This is the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal! Oh, Prim, come on! Obama was practically slapping a "Kick Me" sign on his own backside with this sort of grandiosity. So no...

Can I gently suggest that you both (hal and Cerin) have made your points and that it would pointless to keep arguing about it back and forth?

That's more like it!
But wait, it was a trick! Obama is pulling his ads. It's foolish to buy national ads instead of focusing all the money on Ohio and Michigan! You just wasted 6 million dollars, sucker!
Thanks for the laugh, Faramond! :)

Here is Obama's latest ad, entitled "Pocket". I'm curious to know what people think of it. Is it deceptive? Effective? A good response to the series of negative ads that McCain has put out? Too negative? Not negative enough? What do you think?
