Re: Impeachment

Yeah Cerin but don't you think that Bolton fish could be really tasty? I really want to hear what he has to say when he's being grilled.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

No, that's not what "My Kevin" refers to, Voronwë. That's what Trump calls McCarthy frequently.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

I thought she was delaying impeachment for dramatic effect. wait wait wait wait maybe-no wait wait wait wait wait NOW! I'm not sure how delaying helps Biden and hurts Warren and Sanders though. It is my understanding that "My Kevin" McCarthy has been piling up an impressive list of moronic...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Yes indeed, those snakes are coming from Bernie supporters. I know I should be appalled but I just think it's funny. In a way it's actually raising the typical level of Twitter discourse. The whole thing is kind of amazing. The he-said she-said, the way the moderator just straight up assumed that Wa...

If you're into snakes or weird feuds between Democratic candidates you should check out what is happening in Warren's twitter replies.

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Oh, I would never say that Trump can't win. But I just can't see the case for having him favored at this point, much less saying that he'll win for sure. To me a lot of the skepticism that people feel around Trump losing in 2020 is an overreaction to the overconfidence that they may have had in 2016...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

And the Democrats continue to eat themselves alive. Looks like Trump 2020 for sure. I don't think the facts back this up. I mean, why would a primary spat in January between the candidates in second and third place mean that Trump will surely win? Trump is very unpopular. Historically unpopular. Wi...

Re: U.S. Iran Conflict

Did Obama specifically target civilians? Was his motive to spread terror in order to advance a theocratic state? Okay, you say that you're not comparing Obama and Soleimani, but whatever it is you're doing that involves considering their actions side by side I don't particularly think it's valid. I ...

Re: U.S. Iran Conflict

That Tolkien quote really isn't applicable here. In the books it applied to Gollum at various times when he was captured and subdued. In general it should only be applied to someone who has been neutralized, who cannot reasonably kill anyone else. That quote is an excellent argument against the deat...

Re: World News Thread

As I understand it, military leaders prepared a range of options to provide to Trump and the assassination of Soleimani was presented as the most extreme choice, in order to make the other options seem more reasonable. That is apparently a common tool that military leaders use, and no one ever expe...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

This tweet from "DPRK News Service" just about sums up Deval Patrick, I think. Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick brings charisma of Michael Bloomberg, and wealth of Pete Buttigieg, to US democratic race. Also this one: Deval Patrick frequently compared to Barack Obama, minus personal ma...

Re: Impeachment

This is exactly what I am talking about! If you think that zero pro-Trump voters can be persuaded then you aren't capable of making an argument that will sway some of them. You have defeated yourself. I was pointing out your argument wasn't any better than what you were arguing against. Saying one ...

Re: Impeachment

As a practical matter those who want to remove Trump would probably do well to make arguments that will sway these voters. But -- I wonder how many anti-Trump people are even capable of this? It may be argued that pro-Trump voters are not capable of being swayed by arguments. So that kind of thinki...

Re: Impeachment

I think that, usually, "Talking Points" is either a lazy response to a good argument or a descriptive response to a lazy argument. In other words, when "talking points" comes up it is a symptom of a sick thread. I have no opinion on who is or is not to blame, if even anyone is to...

Re: Impeachment

Who is the audience that needs to be convinced for Trump to be removed from office? The reductive answer is 20 or so Republican senators, but what I really want to know is who needs to be convinced that would put enough pressure to sway those Republican senators to vote for removal? The answer, sure...
