Thanks Eru on that insider info on what is going on in Texas! I was impressed by the "on the ground" operation that I saw in Colorado. Below is a nice quote lifted from a comment on why Obama is compelling to many. I have to say that I am untroubled by the wonkish need to split hairs about...

So surely a simple solution would be to set a reasonably high ceiling on the top rate, say $150,000, and tax anything over that at 40 or 50 percent? The wealthy remain wealthy, but pay a larger share of tax. Where's the problem?  According to many more conservative Americans, such woul...

Obama had to know even then that one day he wanted to run for president and that those words could come back to haunt him, yet they are very strong words. I agree that it would have been more convincing if he had actually had the opportunity to go on record of being against the war in the Senate, bu...

If she concedes March 5, she'll be in a much better position--could go on to Senate majority leader, or some position in the cabinet. I do feel for her though--if indeed this plays out as it's looking now, what a bitter, bitter disappointment for her. :(

Regarding the upcoming primaries in Texas/Ohio, I wonder if Obama's better organization will be a factor. When I went to my precinct caucus in Colorado, there was an Obama truck with Obama stickers, buttons, and othe swag free for the taking, as well as somebody speaking for him. Clinton had no truc...

That comment was made completely in jest, Soli. I fully recognize that the RPGs would take the helicopters out this time around. ;) No, really, I agree that we've "taken back" much of Iraq from Al-Qaida and insurgents by additional people on the ground there. But it is delaying the inevita...

Remember, there are a lot of moderates and independents who don't like the war, but also don't think we should just run away.
Yes, waiting and then helicoptering our people off of roofs is far better. ;)

I heard on NPR that there is starting to be talk/negotiation about how Michigan and Florida delegates could be counted. Revoting, etc. are being discussed. I could see Hillary seizing on that and not letting go. As far as the electoral college, I see virtually zero chance that the system will be ove...

McCain's probably going to pull that "card-carrying member" thing on Obama highlighting his quite liberal voting record. This might put people off. Or is Obama the new Teflon candidate? :)

I see blogs predicting about an even showing for Hillary and Obama on March 4, with Hillary conceding March 5. She would have to win by big margins to pull ahead in delegates.

I know this is long, but I think it's worth it: Obama's speech (October, 2002): Good afternoon. Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances. The Civil War was one of the bloodiest in hist...

Boy that plagiarism charge didn't make much of an impact! They had me a little worried there. Michelle Obama needs to be more careful of what she says, however.

Billary part Deux Much as I liked Bill Clinton, I really don't want that. Enough political dynasties. It was funny, up until around mid-January I was still kind of undecided between the two candidates, but now that I know more about Obama I will be quite disappointed if Hillary is the candidate. My...

Well, I might become just as big of a cynic as you if Obama gets more elected delegates and doesn't get the Democratic nomination. :)

I suppose my more personal, small-state experience with politics leaves me less of a cynic, despite my exposure to the scandals of the media. Mark Udall is our neighbor and believes passionately in public service and bettering the people of Colorado. Plus he's a nice guy. He's running for the Senate...

I don't think that the fact that he's worked within the system as it is negates the fact that he is significantly different than the other major party candidates in the race. And the system, while not perfect, is still hard to match of all the human political institutions across the world. So I'm no...

The whole "change" slogan he has been using throughout his campaign may very well turn out to be no more than an opportunist playing upon the sore spot of the voters. We'll see, but up to this point he is not only playing within the system, he is part of the system and part of what is wro...
