Was lucky enough to get Dwalins double axes at 50% off and also picked up the bow and arrow of a certain Elvish young lady with healing powers. I was hoping for an orc bow and arrow to go next to it but they seem to only want to produce the hero weapons - with the exception of the Azog mace which is...

First, I love to cry at movies.... and TV shows .... and some sappy commercials ..... and even some country and western videos..... its real events in real life that leave me dry eyed. Second, I had not thought about the effects of the weather on the box office but that does make sense. I could see ...

As of 1/15 SMAUG has hit 810 million world wide. If we assume the most optimistic and say it takes in another $100 from China and Japan when it is released there, that still is almost another 100 it still has to make up world wide and that will be rather difficult. An overall take of 950 or so now s...

Elen....... congratulations on your completion of the epic work translating the SILMARILLION into cinema. When I think of those who fell to the wayside along the way but you were always there leading the charge - you indeed are a hero worth of Fëanor battling the Balrogs. Now that my life is ...

If Jackson can construct and film a series of sequences as elaborate and amazing as the Erebor dwarves vs. Smaug scenes over the last half hour of DOS in a few weeks of pickups - it gives me great anticipation of what he will film this May for TABA. Perhaps PJ added all that action as a result of th...

I'll put this here, rather than start a new thread for it. My piece for TORN about the Weinstein lawsuit got published there on Sunday, but I didn't realize it. Here it is if anyone is interested: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2014/01/05/86054-could-the-final-hobbit-film-be-scrapped-or-delayed-be...

The CHRONICLES book has a feature on Dale after the Smaug attack and makes several references to the Dwarves walking through it to get to the gate of Erebor. Apparently they put a large amount of work into that set. I wonder if that is part of the EE? I would almost guarantee that it will be in the...

That's because there is definitely a Tibetan influence to the design, as explained in the Weta Chronicles III "Much of the influence in our Lake-town's architecture comes from the East. There's a Tibetan influence, but that said, there's also a hint of Scandinavia." ~ Dan Hennah "I d...

Rather nice! I guess there's a high possibility of it ending up in Tauriel's hands at the end of TaBA...just hope that will only be because Kili asks her to return it to Dis... So you think that Tauriel will be alive at the end of TABA? I would like to see her make some heroic sacrifice which takes...

My grandson and I saw it for the third time this afternoon - the first for non 3D. We both prefer it in 3D. I did see the tiniest glimpse of putting Bofur down on the stretcher in Mirkwood but if you did not know to look for it you would never see it. I love it more than ever. When we left I asked m...

The willing suspension of disbelief is a wonderful asset in viewing films. As a kid I marveled at Superman being able to change his clothes in a cramped phone booth when it was obvious he was a pretty big guy and even somebody my size would have to step outside to remove his jacket. A house inside a...

Saw it again yesterday with my grandson and I loved it even more the second time and was able to appreciate lots of things that I failed to see the first time. I thought it had a very organic look - much like a cross between something very primeval and the best aspects of great set design. It was very much Mirkwood.

Things I want in the EE: - More Beorn - A lot more Mirkwood and the enchanted river in it. -More of Bilbo wandering through Thranduil's palace and trying to figure out how to save the dwarves. -No more barrels please! -No more Legotauriel hack-n-slash please! -A better glimpse of Erebor's gates fro...

I do accept the fact that you have to separate PJ's Middle Earth from Tolkien's Middle Earth. They are separate and to enjoy them, the reader or viewer has to accept and separate the two. I think if you do that, the movies are enjoyable, I find the books more enjoyable. PJ is a movie maker and ente...
