Yes, and then a lot of people never really progress beyond HS science, end u with a poor understanding of the scientific method, and we end up with arguments like we've seen on this board. I'm not sure how to address that though - there are certain things you need to know regarding science and HS sc...

The problem with German model is it's very hard to change tracks once you're on one. Yugoslavia had a system like that pre-civil war (I have no idea what they do now). S thought he didn't want to go to university so he took the technical track...and then decided he wanted to go to university after a...

Mith, I hate going to the doctor too. I see doctors and I think "Oh no, this is a former PRE-MED!" and I get heart palpitations. Seriously. Once, when I went in to Student Health to get an injury checked out they tried to keep me because my blood pressure was   from anxiety. ...

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed by that move too yov. I wasn't surprised - Obama made it pretty clear he was going to renege on that pledge months ago - but I'm still disappointed. OTOH, he's in the position he's in, where he's better off without the public funding, not because of a handful of very w...

What about dumping a SUV because you can't afford to fuel it?

Not that I care - me and my beater of a hatchback are doing just fine. :P

Mahima wrote:I finally understood, last night, why the US Attorneys had been fired. Am so shocked! I can't believe it.

How can anyone defend the Bush administration after this?
Why? What happened? I knew it was political shenanigans but the exact nature is escaping me right now. Care to share your epiphany?

My dad has an artificial hip. End of story.

It gets really "entertaining" when a language barrier is involved.

Maybe the same crap that happens to me? :D Actually, I generally don't have problems with security. Every other step, from getting ticketed to getting out of the airport at journey's end, is liable to go haywire on me, but I *usually* make it through security just fine. I'm not kidding about the bac...

Well, I suddenly need to have my background checked to do the job I've been doing since May 2004 and that seems a mite fishy. The reason? I work with chemicals. I wonder what will happen when they find out I'm certified as a radiation worker as well. I can work with chemicals, radioisotopes AND x-ra...

hal, science is based on empirical observations. Experimentation is a means of testing hypotheses or even making observations, but experimentation is not the be all/end all of the scientific method. That said, computer modeling itself is a form of experimentation, a very powerful method if you do it...

So would any measures against epidemic diseases. It's natural right? Don't do anything. Just let them all die.

Except things like closed sewers and clean drinking water and vaccines actually work.

It's more likely a convolution of a nature and man - the current rate of warming is unprecedented, as is the current rate of CO2 increase in the atmosphere. By reducing our end of the problem, we might pull out of this with something we recognize as human society intact. And, as has been mentioned b...

And if he or she (because women scientists commit fraud too :P) is prominent enough, it makes headlines. A massive fraud case takes down everyone the scientist in question trained as well - even the one that blew the whistle. You can do a lot of things with math, but you have to disclose said math i...

If we just keep burning, we're only hastening the day when there's nothing left to burn. At some point, the reserves, both proven and unproven, will run out. And then what?

Maybe you should read the decision then. I found it somewhere, for free.

I couldn't understand half of it - in fact I gave up on it. But I've a funny feeling you're over-reacting. Anyway, a look won't kill ya.

Evil lurks in the hearts of men.

Women too, but men seem to be more likely to just drop dead.
