Vison, with regard to your question on Faery, I happened to come across this fabulous post by Twiggyleaf (one of my vanished favourites) talking about why Manwë sent Oromë and Tulkas northward to search for Melkor (Manwë believed that Melkor wished to return to one of his old strongholds in the nort...

I think I raised a question about Orcs in the Sil thread (no idea on which board) when we were talking about Aulë creating the Dwarves. Without the divine gift of free will, Aulë's creations are nothing more than puppets that act as he wills, and it is upon receiving this gift, through the direct i...

I've just recently re-read it, so, of course, I'm very ready to read it again. :D With regard to scheduling: Way back in the days I discovered A Tolkien Virgin, what I found most interesting is that the fellow reading it posted first and then others could respond to his post - insights, perceptions,...

Hunter, missed your post there! :) It's lovely to see you.

I'm enjoying seeing many names here.

I have done so. :)

And I've also received the gift basket (thank you) and wish to complain about the lack of absinthe therein. I had high hopes I would get to try it at last! Feel quite deflated. Have eaten all the chocolate though - and it was very good!

May I invite my dear friend Scirocco?

He was the mainstay of both VTSG and Books - erudite, intelligent, giving, civil.

His participation on TORC has basically come to a halt as the discussion became less engaging. I think he would have a fine time here!

I guess I could just let him know, eh?

May I please go back to the darkening of Vallinor? I know you have all moved on, so I won't if it would be a distraction, but I was all excited and prepared to post on the Silmarils (a subject that interests me intensely!) Let me know.

That is quite true, Alatar, on both points. Thank you. :) Frelga, your allusion to Rashi is fascinating - and yes, that's right! Tolkien did have a role in the translation of the bible but a very, very small role. IIRC he was given only a few verses. However, his sincere religiosity may have led him...

I'm not really one for holiday music if you mean by that Christmas holiday music. I do have a nostalgic appreciation of Bing's White Christmas album because it brings back feel-good sensations from way back as a kid when Christmas holidays meant summer and swimming and no school and good food and su...

I'm back-pedalling breathlessly, trying to work out what's going on in Israeli politics - all my constructs have toppled in this last month. There is a real possibility that this new party will get to govern in coalition, but I hold grave doubts as to the direction. Both Peres (his peace prize notwi...

I was thinking how similar (in some ways) the Silmarils are to the Ring. Each beautiful beyond measure to the beholder. Each the greatest work of their makers, who pour the better part of their subcreative powers into them so that they never again can hope to match such perfection. Each a source of...

Can't stay - too busy exploring and sticky-beaking everywhere to post right this minute.

ciao!
