Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread
Thanks, V! I consider you all friends, so I'll try to pop in for that reason as well (not just when I have something enlightening or irritating to say about PJ and JJ).

Re: Disney buys Lucasfilm ("Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens
In case anyone missed it, the new droid BB-8 became an instant classic by rolling out on stage at Star Wars Celebration. It's a real, practical robot. And it's adorable. Gives R2D2 a real run for his money. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_K10fX9DSY Something tells me the filmmakers are doing some...

Re: Disney buys Lucasfilm ("Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens
If anyone is interested in being majorly spoiled, a very detailed account of the entire film has been put together, which builds off of both official information and details leaked to the website Making Star Wars, which derive from official call sheets, shooting schedules, shooting logs, and product...

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread
Hi all. Been very busy with work, which has included a significant amount of travel. Add to that the simple fact that we've come to the end of PJ's Tolkien adaptations, and a new exciting series that I'm interested in (the Star Wars sequel trilogy), and it has become hard to find the time to contrib...

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Those are so good. Though my all-time favorite line is from the AUJ "How it should have ended":
Bilbo: "I'm sorry, did you say scrotum beard?"
Gandalf: "Scrotum beard!"

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread
There's a new link been posted on TORn - I don't know if it's US-friendly or not, but catch it if you can! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elEXyQ9KgfA I'm such a horrible person. I watched that video, and all I could think about after a certain point (around 2:17) was "it's dwarves , not dwarf...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Sounds like a pretty accurate depiction of modern urban warfare..."Blackhawk Down" - Seriously had no idea what was going on, except that lots of people were shooting lots of other people in a war zone and people were dying.

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Ender's Game. Crazed politics of Orson Scott Card aside (which led me to skip the film in theaters), I think this is a very underrated film. It's oddly hypnotic, and simultaneously weightless (like its games) and grounded (like a fist fight between children). The lead child actor is tremendously tal...

Re: YOUR Best picture 2014?
I like most Wes Anderson films myself, for many of the reasons Prim gives (though I also prefer naturalism). He's an auteur, with a strong personal style in a market that's saturated with focus-grouped films. But Grand Budapest felt like he was imitating himself. I suppose I'm just tired of the safe...

Selma and Birdman.
I've enjoyed most of Wes Anderson's offerings (esp. Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore), but I felt that the Grand Budapest Hotel was almost a caricature of his style. I'm just not buying it any more. He needs to teach his pony a few new tricks!

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
I've combed through all of yov's posts regarding films since his very first one on HoF, and have conducted a discourse analysis to isolate his opinions from factual statements. Of those opinions, 7.3% of them are correct, and 92.7% are incorrect. So it is more probable than not that his opinions reg...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
As someone who grew up in Boston, I disagree. The Town is extraordinarily authentic, and full of great acting. Same with Gone Baby Gone, though I don't love that film. As a foreign policy aficionado, I also thought Argo was very authentic, and full of great acting. But outside directing, and his rol...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
Affleck's acting chops aside (though I think he plays an excellent Bostonian) he is pretty darned good director!
Al,
Your opinion regarding Affleck in Daredevil is wrong. Out of charity, I will not reference all the scientific laws to support that assessment. There are too many.
