Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME

This is hilarious. The Force Awakens plot synopsis I first wrote here for y'all, inspired by Voronwë, Primula and River, is making the rounds on a number of entertainment news sites. Here's the roundup so far: MakingStarWars.net: http://makingstarwars.net/2015/05/a-compiled-synopsis-of-star-wars-the...

Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME

One wonders if a princess and a pirate ever could have had a happily ever after...though PtB's read on the situation was mine as well. They had kids, something happened, and the relationship didn't survive. Maybe there was blame. Maybe one turned to substance abuse. Or maybe it all collapsed under ...

Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME

It also seems that Han and Leia were estranged for a good reason. They lose one (or both) of their children, and I imagine they may blame each other. That said, it looks as if Han and Leia reconcile at the Resistance base. Likely around the idea that their child (or children) are alive. They have an...

Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME

Ewoks, yes. But Kasdan also had Han Solo dying heroically, which though tragic, would have elevated his role in the film. As it stands, Han Solo's character doesn't really progress at all in the film. One huge idea from Kasdan, however, that I'm glad Lucas shot down is in regards to Luke. Kasdan had...

Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME

I think I remember reading, perhaps even before Abrams was tapped to do Episode Seven, that he was not much of a Star Trek fan and always was much further on the Wars side of the Star spectrum. When Abrams' 2009 Star Trek film was released I heard a lot of critics saying that his film was basically...

Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME

By all indications, including public statements, JJ Abrams is a hardcore original trilogy fan, and didn't like the prequels. There's a funny story in a Vanity Fair article about him pausing a shot on the desert planet, walking up to the screen, circling a sand dune with his marker, and saying someth...

Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME

Lucas did, fortunately, give us an out with midichlorians. They are not elements of the force. They are not the organisms that make up the force. That's a misperception. They are simply microorganisms that are more present in those individuals that are more attuned to the force. Like mildew is attra...

Which leads me to believe that Finn may have some latent force powers. :D "Latent force powers" either sounds like some specific physical phenomenon (“the latent force powers led to the explosion of the…”), a fake mental disorder (be careful around him, he’s got latent force powers and co...

Re: New Star Wars films from Disney: SPOILERS WELCOME

Does Finn getting in a light saber fight imply that Finn has latent Force powers or that you don't need Force powers to use a traditional Jedi/Sith weapon? I don't believe you need force powers to use a lightsaber. After all, Han Solo uses one to slash open a tauntaun's belly. :) However, it does s...

Re: Disney buys Lucasfilm ("Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens

A light-hearted thought came to me. Am I the only one here who saw the Chrome Stormtrooper and thought of Cylon Centurions? Seriously, if Chrome Stormtrooper says "By your command," I will either laugh inappropriately or throw my drink at the screen (and miss). I wonder if Kylo Ren didn't...

Re: Disney buys Lucasfilm ("Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens

After thinking about it some more, I am now regretting reading the spoiler bits, simply because I would have rather not known about Han Solo dying. But I doubt I would have gone all the way until December without learning that fact, so its all good. As for Luke, I would prefer that he be more of an...

Re: Disney buys Lucasfilm ("Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens

Thanks all! And in case you were wondering, I love Luke's rumored role, not least because it avoids fan service and nostalgia-peddling for what seems like a solid, evocative and Star Warsy narrative rationale. It seems clear to me that Luke is the Yoda of this trilogy. Imagine that George Lucas had ...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

I think a bunch of directors just signed up for a course taught by George Miller. Mad Max: Fury Road just took a lot of filmmakers to school.

It's so good that 98% on RT is not a surprise at all.

Alright, here be massive spoilers. I have taken the Chronology from the Jedi Council Forums, and turned it into a more coherent synopsis. I have tried to note where I am speculating based on the information given, vs. where I am simply reporting information from leaked official materials (call sheet...

Re: Disney buys Lucasfilm ("Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens

OK, so I was floored by the second teaser. The first shot alone was worthy of comparison to the best shots of the original trilogy, including the opening scene of A New Hope, where the rebel ship flies past and is then followed by an unbelievably massive, seemingly miles-long ship of the Empire (whi...
