In my opinion, yes, but to a Russian Jew perhaps not. And you're absolutely right about acting and theatre. :) I hope I wasn't too terribly frustrating, Alatar. That certainly was not my intent. I thought more about what you had written, and what point you were trying to make, and I think I may have...

It would depend upon who that white person was. With my straight (when cut short) hair and big blue eyes I definitely would look wrong. :D

On second thought they have brown contact lenses, don't they? No, I have to think I'd still look wrong.

Very nice comments, WampusCat. I wholeheartedly agree with everything you wrote. :) But could Sam have found the strength to wrest the Ring from Frodo, or even to push him, Ring and all, into the abyss? Unfortunately, I don't find that likely either. I don't, either. However, if Sam had found Frodo ...

Actually, the makeup now is very good and a white person in black makeup looks very much like a "Natural" African American. The makeup used tends to be more coffee coloured rather than "black". Like Robert Downey, Jr. in 'Tropic Thunder'? IIRC he wore a wig, and tried to emulate...

I've always heard it as "Coloured Folk work on the Mississippi", this older version has "Darkies all work on the Mississippi" and the original work had "N*****s all work on the Mississippi". I've heard recent recordings where they've changed it to " We all work......

Pretty Women We lose the orchestra slightly here, but get it back. Also I'm singing the wrong verse at one point. Still, how often do you get to sing a male Baritone duet! At one point you nearly put the brush in Turpin's mouth while he's singing. LOL! There are plenty of times in Mozart's Don Giov...

Tolkien says in another letter that if Sam had shown him compassion, pity on the stairs, that Gollum would have repented...also after reading up on this am convinced that Gollum had to play a role in the destruction of the Ring. It had to be Gollum that destroyed the Ring. If Gollum had repented, h...

So someone else compares CT's efforts to compile and publish his father's work to the labors of Hercules! I've been using that term for years. Besides, I just like the sound of it: herculean . ...

I was introduced to this aria in a voice class back in 1980 or '81. It's not terribly difficult to sing, which is why it is a standard for beginners. I have a performance of countertenor David Daniels on CD that is fantastic. I also have a Pavarotti performance on cassette tape. (Pavarotti? ...

Nearly four years later... Let's see, that performance at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House. What was it like? Ah, now I remember! We sat in the balcony where the sound is fantastic but the view of the stage not so much. However, I was introduced for the first time to 'Opera Vision'. "...

Did you all know there are two classical music threads? Either Voronwë is slipping or he has mellowed from the scythe-wielding thread splitter/thread melder that I knew back in the day. The Classical Music Thread , whose first post is dated May 7, 2006, actually predates this one, although it appear...

I've loved Peter, Paul, & Mary from when I was very young. The first song I ever owned on vinyl was 'Puff the Magic Dragon'. (As Alatar pointed out, despite the urban legend it's not about smoking weed. Besides, I could have sworn that Peter Yarrow said something about "cordially disliking&...

I was a late-comer to 'Avatar'. I heard all the hoopla, but patiently waited until it became available on DVD so I could watch in the comfort of my own home (on a 52" TV with 5-point surround sound, no less). I actually enjoyed it very much, and wished I could live a life as one of those giant ...
