This is turning into a very interesting discussion. Lord M, would you be willing to consider editing the title to reflect the broader focus? I don't think that it needs to be split off, but there may be some people who are not specifically interested in talking (or reading) about Suharto, who would ...

Impy, that "then" has been in that description for over a year. I refuse to change it. :) But needless to say, there are no misplaced "then"s in the actual manuscript. I don't have any information about publishing outside the U.S. at this time. (I don't even have a contract yet)....

I wonder what affect, if any, the Giants victory will have on the NY primary. There is going to be a massive parade tomorrow. Will that lower voter turnout? If so, who would that help, Obama or Clinton? I suspect that it might help Obama, because his supporters are more enthusiastic, though perhaps ...

I saw about half of it. It was remarkably civil. I thought Sen. Clinton came across very well. But (not surprisingly) I thought that Sen. Obama came across brilliantly. And based on the reactions of the crowd, that is how others reacted to. But I haven't seen any analysis yet. One thing that I found...

Maybe you can get Prim to sign her books. 8)

In any event, I just heard back from the publisher who confirmed that it is likely to a full year before it is published. We are most likely talking about 2009.

Don't know yet, but I would tend to doubt it. In any event, I am not, alas expecting to be at the Chicago m00t.

I wonder what kind of reaction there is going to be if Obama gets more delegates through the primary/caucus process, but Clinton gets put over the top by the superdelegates. I don't think that folks are going to be terribly happy about that.

I hope so too, although I am not optimistic that it will. See my comments above about the likelihood of Faramond's sensical suggestion being implemented.

I have little sympathy for those claiming to be "disenfranchised" by this. I have much sympathy for the voters, who had no say in the decisions to move their primaries. I'm sure I would feel extremely frustrated as a Democratic voter in either Florida or Michigan! Yes, I should have been ...

Faramond, I think your suggestion makes a lot of sense. Which is probably why it will never happen. ;) I've seen a lot of speculation that Edwards withdrawal was related to his wife's health situation. He really did have the opportunity to be a player. But perhaps he got tired of being the th...

Thanks for that cogent description of the confusing world of delegate counting. I agree that it makes sense to have it in a separate thread. It might get a little confusing, but if everyone takes some care in keeping discussion of the merits of the candidates and the results of the contests in the o...

Arda Reconstructed to be published

[Note: Many of you have seen this news in the Red Book forum, but I thought I should post it here, as well.] I am very pleased to announce that my book, Arda Reconstructed: The Creation of the Published Silmarillion , has been accepted for publication by the Lehigh University Press. LUP is a member ...

I agree with soli. Regardless of how we got into this mess, we are in it. Recrimations may have some place (particularly in regards to avoiding making the same kind of mistake in the future), but that doesn't mean that we don't have to make hard choices in dealing with the situation. soli, I mostly ...

Indeed. At the beginning of this campaign, I leaned towards supporting Richardson, but he lost any chance of having my support when he stated unequivocally that he would pull all of the troops out of Iraq at once if he was elected. That sounds good, but it simply ignores reality. As much as I would ...

Thank you, Cerin and Maria; excellent responses both of you. Cerin, to answer your specific question, "Are you thinking in terms of soul being different from spirit?" I am so open on this issue that I am really looking for whatever different ways that different people look at "souls&q...
