Re: "One long saga of the Jewels and the Rings"

I'm glad the estate can vet the scripts. Ursula Le Guin wrote a rather wrenching essay about her experience with a TV film adaptation of A Wizard of Earthsea that ignored her deeper themes entirely, whitewashed the cast, and wrote stupid dialog throughout. She was actually there to see it happen, ha...

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

I can’t help thinking that it’s every independent’s patriotic duty not to run this time, considering that the usual result is to elect the Republican, and the Republican this time is the most destructive US president in history.

Should one of you start a new thread?

Because I've enjoyed every single one of the songs I've tried on here and I want to try more. You have to understand—I can hear now and everything.

Re: The Russia Investigations and other Trump-related cases

Bussfeed has broken other stories that turned out to be true. We'll see, I guess.

But I agree that it would be the biggest BFD so far. And apparently solidly supported by evidence and interviews already in Mueller's possession, or so says Buzzfeed.

How old is the picture? Hairstyles don't appear to be from this decade.

Re: Brexit Carried - Deal Defeated

It's really hard to get rid of kings and queens. Maybe that's why they've persisted into modern times.

I saw one poor sod explain mansplain that women would be able to understand men's problems with the ad if only women shaved, too.

Re: Escaping the Echo Chamber

But we're not looking to them for guidance. And no one's forced to watch the ad; I believe it's online only. Sure, it's intended to make us like the company, and it's the result of recent social changes, but I think it's a positive message, and they didn't have to do it. They are getting backlash fo...

Re: President Trump's good qualities

Even on the occasions when he takes a position I could call admirable, (a) his manner makes clear that it's something he's been told he has to say, and (b) he slides right back to his real position, sometimes within hours (or even within the same speech).

For me:  I really can't think of a single thing. Probably the only living human being of whom I would say that.

I hope to be heartened and illuminated by others' responses.
