See, I thought that religious or not, we'd all like to hope there's another day tomorrow, but maybe that's just me. Probably is. But if like Lidless says there's a psyche, or a soul we can speak of, then I think that gives speculating about what happens to it after the flesh dies a lot of sense, esp...

When I say transcend the physical, I am touching on the fact that for all the studies that have been done on the human body and brain and how the physical affects our character, there's still a lot of unknowns there. There is as far as I know no definite explanation for why a person is the way they ...

I don't post here often but I am curious. Question for those of you who don't believe in any higher power or deity, what is your stance on an afterlife? Almost all the atheists I have met firmly reject the idea of a possible life after death and I can't figure out why. Surely you don't have to belie...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only one who can decide whether a child is too young for a certain book is said child :P The only real obstacle is vocabulary. And of course it depends what the kid likes...I know at age ten my favourite book was Attenborough's 'Secret life of plants'. ...

Rodia, in a republic the government does not always just follow the will of the people. Elected representatives are free to make laws that ignore the will of the people, as I think we are about to see in the health care debate. I know that. And I have to say, so? We can't always trust the politicia...

Who said anything about sparing anyone's feelings? I just don't see the difference between asking the government, which is meant to represent the will of the people, to change something, and asking the people directly. The result will likely be the same, no?

Sorry to jump in out of nowhere. I'm wondering about the commercial Rebecca posted. On the one hand I understand the view that the very need for such a ballot is insulting, but then again what exactly is the difference between asking the citizens their opinion and leaving the decision up to the gove...

When I left the cinema the first thought in my head was , this is so much better than Cloverfield. I mean there's room to compare the two- pseudo-actual footage that gradually succumbs to the rules of feature film cinematography for one. Thing was, in Cloverfield we were constantly reminded of the p...

I did the spoiler warning just to be safe, but I'd rather not have to next time. Easier to make a separate non-spoiler thread. Also, sometimes people have a different understanding of what a spoiler is.

Hey, I don't post here often enough to know what the rules are in movie threads, but I do know what a pain it is to have one spoiled. :blackeye:

Can I assume from now on that one enters a movie thread at their own risk?

Well, I suppose it's not a huge deal, I mean I AM an innocent person (mostly) and there is a reason we give police the right to identify people. But I worry about this kind of stuff because I look suspicious, at least by most people's standards. I do, really. I usually get sales clerks following me ...

The part that most shocked me were the street commentaries- people saying stuff like "They'll just take your shoes right off your feet." and "They should go somewhere else." Because that could have been part of any real-life documentary. You hear stuff like that on the news all ...

I don't get it. If you walk around the police can stop you and demand ID and if you don't have it, drive you away to identify you? Why? Can this happen to me if I go for a walk in a place where no one knows me? Because I do that a lot. If I say 'no thanks', can they decide I'm being suspicious and f...

Well, I saw it, and it was creepy and nothing like the book, and the Mad Hatter is overplayed because Johnny Depp, but whatever, it looks good. It's just not that Alice. But if I ever need that Alice, I'll go read the book again.

I remember a fight broke out in the audience. Some guy punched some other guy's girlfriend.

And then Neo did some fighting, I think.

I like what I like, yeah. I'll listen to russkipop if I enjoy it, too. Haven't got time to obsess over musical intellect I don't posess- fun is fun. :D All I Need is dull, yes...I really could do without it on that album, the rest please me just fine. :) But! but! but! New REM album next Tuesday. :D...

I told you, I don't know anything about music. I like Radiohead but I'm not gaga about them. That beloved album OK Computer didn't make an impression on me. I think the band are neat- but I don't understand why they get such fantastic praise from critics and connoisseurs. I mean this literally- I do...
