I don't think its a bad system at all. I agree that, like telecom licenses, radio licenses make some sense. And I agree that some restriction on content, such as not having pronography on the waves is a good thing too. But more than that? Doesn't make sense to me.

Whats the reasoning/incentive to remove the secret ballot? I can't think of any. Everyone can see how everyone voted. Intimidation - a guy won't vote against whatever his buddies are voting for if they're watching. I mean the incentive to change the legislation. You can't have "intimidation&qu...

Thanks, Prim - it makes sense. Its something like the non-pornographic board, I guess. But i don't see how the fairness doctrine fits into that simplistic view.

I think airwaves are being controlled because there is a precedent for it. There is no logic to it.

sf, I understand the principle. But I fail to see how the principle makes the control of the content of the airwaves okay.

The government decides a lot of things - like the Iraq war. Does that make the war fine by you?

Excellent point, Prim. I firmly believe that economic prosperity is the way to tackle these problems. Globally.

That wasn't my point. I wasn't saying whether FCC has been granted the right or not. What I was saying was that the government/FCC should not have the right to control the content on the airwaves. Given some exceptions (national security, disaster etc.). To elaborate, the FCC is, once again, a creat...

Mahima - that has always been my standard as well - but not just my son but me too. The only one that gets that kind of support in my mind for the last hundred years would be World War II. I would stick to Mahima's version. No offense, gentlemen, but young men fight for all sorts of silly reasons. ...

But that leasing/sold is a CREATED market. Anyone can transmit radio on some frequency without any license. The way anyone can upload what they wish right now on the internet.

If FCC does not have the right to control the internet, they also do not have the right to control the airwaves.

Sigh. I wonder who recommended them? I felt a little dubious when I read the blurb and the first page in the shop, but I figured if I got the name here it must be good. I talked about them. About how they are complete rubbish. Maybe you just vaguely remembered that it was me. And thought ...

Having said that, I would ask, what is worth going to war for?
A war you would be willing to send your son to fight in.

According to Jesse Jackson, but it really resonated with me.

Edited for grammar.

Mahima Could you further explain your point? Because when I combine the numbers your provided here with the numbers I provided in the opening post of the thread - I see them coming to the same conclusion when you combine the projections from the US Census Department. The USA is becoming a less whit...

sf , one thing you miss in your number is the break-up within the minorities. The reason why Obama did better in the minorities is because the younger people voted for him in much larger numbers. Look at these figures. So there might or might not be a problem for Republican party. The youth went ov...
