Re: The much too early 2024 election thread

. I have a cousin who voted for Jill Stein in 2016, reluctantly voted for Joe Biden in 2020, and now says that if the choice is between Trump and Biden, he won't vote. He complains a lot about the two-party system, but he won't do anything realistic to try and change it. It's just such lazy thinkin...

Re: The challenges ahead (Biden's America)

Forgive me if I'm getting too cynical, but no doubt this will do nothing to stop the gun nuts claiming 'Biden's trying to take away our guns!' :nono:

Just read the article - she hasn't been at Penn for over a decade, yet they are claiming her as 'one of their own'!
I'd be pissed off as hell! :x :x

Re: Q-Anon Shaman's suggestions:
Mandatory drug testing...oh, now THAT certainly would be interesting!
I could get behind some of those suggestions. I don't see age and term limits as a bad thing. And definitely, fines and expulsion for insider trading!

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

Rebuke accepted, Frelga. The local news media has been focusing on the things that are happening close to home. And when such an embarrassing thing happens right in your own country, it get a lot of press. I was unaware the blockade had been broken, and also had not seen the most recent reports abou...

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

:( :( I definitely feel sorry for the man, having to cope with this at his age. :( Yes, some of the eastern European countries were in a difficult spot during WWII. I remember my modern history teacher saying this about Poland: Poland has a nice choice: Nazi Germany or Communist Russia. It's like sa...

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

Right. But apparently a lot of people are assuming he's guilty, and so much hate is being directed at him, he's thinking he'll have to leave the country (which you know already...)

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

Okay, have found out Hunka was a member of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician). And it's quite possible he's guilty of war crimes: Formed in 1943, it was mainly employed in the repression of Soviet, Polish[5] and Yugoslav guerrilla partisans.[6] The division took part in the ...

Re: Good music and other good stuff on youtube and Facebook

Not me. I can stream YouTube videos on my smart TV, and watched a three part YouTube movie the other day. There were ads, but I could skip them after the first one, and they weren't very long - 30 to 60 seconds.

I don't get ads on YouTube on my computer, but I have AdBlock installed.

Re: Good music and other good stuff on youtube and Facebook

David McCallum, best known for playing Illya Kurayakin in the Man From UNCLE, and Dr. 'Ducky' Mallard on NCIS has left us at the age of 90.  As a long-time fan of his, I will miss him very much. Most people aren't aware he was a very talented musician as well as an actor. His father was t...

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

I remember seeing pictures at the start of the Ukraine invasion, where civilians were blocking tanks by standing in front of them and refusing to move. The Russian soldiers did not try to run them down. You can be a soldier and not become a monster. But all too often, war forces soldiers to do thing...

Re: Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

Alatar, depending on which unit of the Waffen SS he was with, he may have taken part in some horrible atrocities. Some of the units were the army's 'cleanup crews'. They stayed behind the advancing army to round up and shoot the Jews and other undesirables. Still, I can't help but feel sorry for him.

Voronwë, it smells like a political maneuver to me. But uprooting an 98 year old man whose lived here most of his life isn't going to make them look good :(

And why would Poland want to extradite him? Are they going to throw a 98 year old man in prison? Try him for war crimes?

I could handle helping him with his bath, meds, incontinence and getting dressed/undressed, but when it reached the point where he couldn't walk or do stairs safely due to overall weakness, that was it. I knew he would try, and I already had a live-in caregiver to help out. There was no way that jus...

Re: The Georgia Peach

Thanks for the picture, Rose! They are looking surprisingly well. I specialized in palliative care nursing, and what I was taught focused on hospice type care. Palliative was defined as someone who was definitely very close to the end of their life, and wasn't seeking active treatment anymore. So, y...

Re: The Georgia Peach

 That's amazing! People receiving palliative care generally don't go out to local festivals! And 'palliative' patients do NOT live for 7 months after being declared palliative! Usually, it's a month or two at most. As a matter of fact, many palliative care venues require the doctor to state t...
