I guess I am not a real fan as I am not planning on seeing it til I am off for Christmas break (between Christmas and New Years). I am highly interested to see how PJ does with this and I still worry that PJ did too much milking three movies out of this wonderful book that I can read in one sitting.

Hmmm, will Anduril glow in the 20th edition then? I'm excited to see the movie in a way. I still fear the plot will become over complicated for those not familiar with the story but then again, the movies should drive even more people to the world of Middle Earth who have never ventured there. I am ...

Voronwë,

Do you know if anyone has compared and contrasted Bilbo and Frodo both using the main texts, the additional textual information and info from Letters? I think that may be an interesting comparison.

Tolkien Letter 131 Part B The Hobbit

Been awhile but I want to pick up Letter 131 in terms of how Tolkien explains The Hobbit to Milton Waldman. On page 158 in the third paragraph Tolkien explains how The Hobbit differs from his other works. Specifically Tolkien points out that in The Hobbit many things like "Hobbits and Hobbitry ...

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but the dwarves to me are not the dwarves that I imagine when I read the book. Thorin is not in his prime in my opinion, as I image a strong, white bearded dwarf with a long beard. Sorry, I enjoy Richard Armitage as an actor and I think even if he had been done in a...

The one major take away from the LOTR movies for me was the soundtracks. It is the one item that I will purchase from the franchise that is "The Hobbit." I look forward to the individual CD's and hopefully a Complete Recording. I enjoy Howard Shore's adaptation of Middle Earth via his music.

Long time away and when it comes to The Hobbit, I have stayed away on purpose. I separate the books from the movies quite easily and find myself in the source material far more than I watch any version of the LOTR Trilogies that I own, even the EE. Having stated that, the movies are entertainment an...

Thanks everyone. Yes, Fisher's Tower is wonderful as are some of the other shots I got. Voronwë, if you want to include Bryce in that trip you better do it soon. The BLM has given initial approval for the expansion of an open pit coal mine that will impact the traffic (a truck driving on Hwy 89 ever...

I watched Book 1 tonight and was very impressed. Alatar hit on the main changes and the ones that I also found very interesting. A story. My wife went with me to see FOTR the first time and for the first hour from the time the Black Riders arrived I had fingernails being driven in my arm. She called...

Excited, yes and no. Were too far out yet for me to get excited about particulars but I a very happy it is moving forward. What is exciting is all the drama around this film. Kristin Thompson over at Frodo Franchise has been a great place to read and get information as this unfolds. I truly hope she...

I had never considered that with Frodo's wound and his sensitivity to evil. I had always thought the burden of the Ring would do that as he neared ever closer to Mordor. Frodo does say later that the knife wound would never heal. Combining the wound with the burden of the Ring I think would be very ...

Journey to Topaz is one such book. George Takei, a.k.a. Sulu from Star Trek spent 3 years at the Tule Lake Camp during the war. Another site that has good info is located here . Near the bottom is one on newspaper articles from the San Francisco region that show the prejudice that was shown toward t...
