Re: Tolkien translation!

I would recommend the following name: Eryn Lasgaer or even more correctly Eryn Las'aer (the Sindarin rule of lenition dictates that the g should be left out, I believe); for comparison see Eryn Lasgalen *, the "Wood of the Green Leaves". So Eryn Las'aer would translate to "Wood of the...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

Ah, an Australian: Hollywood's cheaper resource pool for British-looking actors. ^^ "sources say she would be playing a character named Tyra ." If the sources are correct about the name (and the casting for that matter), Kavenagh will probably not play an elf but a human or maybe even a dw...

Re: Brexit Carried - Farage Triumphant

One slight correction to Túrin's post: Mussolini’s great-grandson Caio Giulio Cesare (as in Julius Caesar) Mussolini did not run for the Lega Nord but for the smaller party Fratelli d'Italia . That said, he is hardly the first descendant of Mussolini to go into politics: His granddaughter, Alessandr...

Re: Tolkien biopic

Assuming your last post was about the biopic and if you find the time, could you elaborate? The film is only hitting cinemas here in a month, and I was not too pleased with the trailer (nor with the casting of the main actor). But if you actually liked it, I will definitely give it a shot.

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

My best guess is that the recent lack of news was mainly caused by marketing concerns . With the release of the final season of Game of Thrones , the unrelated Tolkien film, and of several major summer blockbusters in the last few weeks the producers probably thought it wise to postpone any further ...

Re: Winter is Coming: A Game of Thrones (SPOILERS)

To be honest, episode 6 was arguably the best episode of the final three episodes (and maybe even of the entire season). After the never-ending idiotic plot-twists in episodes 3-5, episode 6 pretty much made the best out of what left to work with. But it also made it clear that things would have be...

Re: Winter is Coming: A Game of Thrones (SPOILERS)

What I described above is not cynicism, let alone cheap cynicism. That is an overtly broad and false definition of a rather clearly defined term; one that is inherently intertwined with an essentially derisive outlook towards certain mores and people. Ned Stark's death in the show is portrayed as a ...

Re: Winter is Coming: A Game of Thrones (SPOILERS)

Describing the "Red Wedding" as "cheap cynicism and shock value" is overtly reductive. Part of the allure of "Game of Thrones" has always been that it was a (slightly) more challgenging show than the dreck that usually is aired on TV and blockbuster cinema. The "Re...

Re: Winter is Coming: A Game of Thrones (SPOILERS)

The "Red Wedding" appears in the books as well, and is arguably one of the better story points in the whole narrative. Indeed, the difference between the "Red Wedding" and more recent "twists" in the show is that what happened then made sense (at least in hindsight) and...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

I agree that knowing a character's fate is not always a dealbreaker. There are certainly plenty of decent films and TV shows that have gone back in time to show certain episodes in a character's past, etc. I am not ruling it out either that Galadriel will end up as one of the protagonists. That said...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

Gonna take a guess that Galadriel will be the main character or a co-main, at least early on. Interesting take but I doubt we will see Galadriel as the protagonist of the series (such as Jon Snow, Daenerys, Tyrion).[1] One of the main strengths of a Second Age setting is that you have far greater r...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

If they truly go with a Second Age setting now, and the likelihood for this has certainly improved as of today, I am speculating (without any real evidence) that we will see a shortened timeline. 1200: Sauron begins to work with the elves of Eregion. c. 1590: The Three Rings are completed. 1690s: Sa...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

As V has already predicted, we will probably get a new map tomorrow, and potentially a great reveal on Thursday (e.g. setting confirmation, first castings, etc.). This could change again tomorrow but given the currently released map information I think it is a good bet to claim that they will produc...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

I never claimed that there is no weather on Mars. What is however not possible on Mars is a storm that reaches such a deadly force that it can potentially knock over a space ship weighing dozens of tons. In fact, storms on Mars would have a hard time knocking a person off their feet. My last sentenc...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

Beutlin, Mars is enveloped in an almost planetwide dust storm right now, as we post. It’s endangering our little rover named Opportunity. There are dust storms on Mars but they never ever reach the deadly force as depicted in the film due to the planet's weak atmosphere. In the movie, the crew had ...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

I watched The Martian on television a couple of weeks ago and took it as further proof that Ridley Scott should have retired at the latest in the early '00s: The film features a dull, unfunny, and one-dimensional protagonist (played by a mediocre actor). The rest of the cast barely amount to cardboa...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

With Simon helping, I guess 4 might be at least partly true. How good is Chris and Simon’s relationship? Was the fallout between Christopher and Simon over his cameo in the RotK film exaggerrated, or was that another Tolkien? The Tolkien with the cameo(s) in the films is Royd Tolkien, a great-grand...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

It seems it is very much in doubt if Peter Jackson is involved in any way or form in the series. As you might have already heard a French website posted an article in which Jackson he denies that he is part of the show ( "Je ne suis pas impliqué du tout sur la série du Seigneur des Anneaux. Je ...
