If (or should I say when) I become king, you will pay for these words of foolishness. [emoji41]

That said, my favorite Leone film is by far "Once upon a Time in the West".

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread

Well, I'm back after months of absence. And I was hoping if someone would be kind enough to briefly summarize what we know of the BOFA EE scenes so far, as I can't go back reading months of posts.  I know as little as you do. Frankly, I have not seen the extended versions of the first ...

Re: IMDB Top 250 films

Welcome back, Smaug's voice! (even though your grade for The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly brings dishonor upon you ;)) I heard that there are some great Indian films out there and when cinema critics rate their favorites at least on Indian movie makes the list. That said, for most Westerners Indian c...

Re: Non fiction

I believe, compared to Pinker, the approach is very different in the Anglophone world or the German-speaking world too. Pinker is indeed not a historian but why then does he use every primary source that fits his thesis and does not put it into historical context? If a historian were to write a pape...

Re: Non fiction

I am on my phone right now and my laptop is at work. As of now, I therefore cannot respond thoroughly to your last post, Nin. I have read Pinker's "The Better Angels of our Nature" too, and just as you I first did so in German. Suffice it to say for now, that from an academic perspective i...

Keep it going Dân! I wished the list would never end. By the way, are there any Neil Young related music entries in the list? He is the only rock geezer I occasionally listen too. :D

Re: Unbranded

I think the reporter who took the interview concentrated too much on the “clear-cut racist and sexist stereotyping” in her questions. In his answers, Mr. Thomas perfectly makes clear that the series is not just about that (even though racism plays an important role). The assessment of art (especiall...

Re: The Arda 300

BTW I'm not even including Jackson's movies, which would add a few more! :) That said, it would be interesting to read another list, nicknamed for example the „New Zealand 30“, which ranks all the invented characters from the movies. I am guessing Tauriel would take first place. But then again, how...

Re: "Privilege"

What I find much more troubling than this is the fact that the Galactic Empire is now allowing British inner-city delinquents to join its elite force. This would have never happened under Darth Sidious! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeRNXtGVFtg Okay, I will leave this thread alone now. I have done ...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

The last movie I saw in cinema was Jurassic World . Jurassic Park was one of my first favorite films, even though I did not get to see it in theatre (since I was only two at the time). Jurassic World is filled with nostalgia, but nothing else really. I do not think the same will happen to the upcomi...

Frelga, I looked up the thread on TORC and I would say that my opinion on this issue pretty much aligns with solicitr’s. Oh, and I do not think this topic merits another thread (for now). Re: "Privilege"

I hate to (what to you call it?) “osgiliath” the thread but I thought they went a little bit too far (from a geographic standpoint) when it came to the inhabitants of Lake-town. Lake-town in the book (and more or less in the films) was at best a rather small and deteriorating trading hub in the Nort...

Re: "Privilege"

I honestly don't recall if there were any actors of African American persuasion in the films? In “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug“, there was at least one woman with clearly “black”/”Sub-Saharan” features. http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/peter-jacksons-the-hobbit/images/d/dc/Laketown_crowd_...

Re: 90-year-old SS hitman given life

I respectfully disagree, Lord_Morningstar. I believe that if a person played a voluntary part in running Auschwitz he deserves a conviction. From what I have read, Mr. Gröning sincerely regrets his actions back then, and even the acting judge told Mr. Gröning today that he deserves respect for facin...

As compared to April 2007 when Senator McCain sang that tune? On most accounts, definitely not.

As compared to a potential McCain presidency? Maybe – maybe not.

By the way, as a kid, my favorite Disney/Pixar films were Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Bambi, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, The Jungle Book (arguably my first favorite film), Robin Hood, Aladdin, The Lion King, Toy Story, Hercules, Mulan (all hail Shan Yu!), A Bug's Life, and Tarzan...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread

Your 1 to 5 makes more sense than our A to F because for some reason nobody knows, we skip the E. :P Our school grades are A thru D and then F if you fail. So yeah, no E grades here. Oh, wow, I did not know that (and I went to school in America!). I guess for me an F would be an unmitigated disaste...
