It does occur to me that there are clearly stories, characters and moments within JRRT's mythos that are more ambiguous than others. Even The Hobbit has some moral murkiness among otherwise upstanding characters, in the events leading up to the BO5A, say. Yes, it's interesting that LotR has the mos...

Humor like "Bombur had grown so fat that he couldn't walk to the kitchen table and had to be carried by six dwarves"? ;) Honestly, that bit in LotR is as low as any Gimli joke in the movies.

Perhaps Bombur will be the group's cook? It would make sense...

Well I agree Kili looks out of place, but I think Fili fits fine into that composite photo.

I like them. Well, except maybe Dori's hair, it's pretty goofy. But I think it's good we'll get a diverse range of dwarf appearances rather than a bunch of Gimli variants. And I'm glad they're starting in light travelling gear rather than heavy armor as some were afraid PJ might do. The description ...

I'd like to listen to the audiobook, but I can see it quickly getting overwhelming if you're not already familiar with the story and characters.

Voronwë, how much knowledge of HoME does your book assume? If I've only read The (published) Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, will I be able to follow it?

Back on the topic of The Hobbit, I don't envy PJ & co. the prospect of making 13 different dwarves distinct characters, and I'm interested to see how they do it and if they're successful. Early on I was expecting them to cut out a few dwarves, and I wouldn't have blamed them if they did.

How did The Silmarillion change your view of LotR?

Of course all the tales in The Silmarillion put LotR in a whole new perspective. What was the biggest thing for you? For me, I never really understood LotR's ending until I read The Silmarillion. The very first time I read it, I didn't even quite get to the very end, and I kind of felt like Tolkien ...

Hi everybody! I post on TORn sometimes and this looks like an interesting place. I'm a big fan of Tolkien's written world (not just LotR) and also, I must admit, quite fond of the movies too.
