Théoden asked for either Éomer or Éowyn just before he died. I'm going to say it was Éowyn, since the phrase "dearer than daughter" is sticking in my head.

Here's hoping that's the answer. If you want the last words Éomer said in the book, I'm completely at a loss.

Nice job on the new ending, Elen. It's different, and it shows how Finrod has matured since he last saw his father. I like the feeling that these characters, at least, will be all right for now. That's the way to end a story-line.

Elen was our guide writing most of these scenes. She knows the timeline and has a good head for working the details together so that things come out as they should.

Definitely. Congratulations, Elen, on the win but I still want to see which of us get the silver and bronze.

"Spawn of Morgoth" would work if we were dealing with an Elf, but I can't see a human teenager saying anything so eloquent. At least, not the kids I raised or the ones I deal with at work. Yes, I patterned Beren's dialogue after what I hear from juvenile delinquents. What if we just left i...

Yikes! Just a guess, but I'll say Mithril and Gold. Silver, copper, and jet just don't make sense. If by some miracle I'm right I'll go again.

I don't know, Elen. Some of the language sounds like your turn of a phrase. You're much better than I am at making characters sound noble when they're in a tight spot.

Rereading these episodes now, with a bit of time away from them, I'm having a hard time remembering what I wrote and what was Elen's and SF's work. I do remember how hard it was to think about the death of good characters, though.

Elen and SF put up with me very charitably during this part of the story. The fact is that the Union story line is mostly out of my own head, although strongly based on what Tolkien wrote. I seem mentally unable to let go of established characters once they are introduced, and if I don't know what t...

Sorry, Inanna. It's the map from LotR, nicely done and hanging on our dining room wall. My DH did the framing, and I think it's about as heavy as the desk the computer is sitting on. That's what I get for decorating, living with a pack of Tolkien fans. Unfortunatley my only computer is the desktop, ...

CB, if misspelling is the only catch your memory gives you then I want to get on whatever diet you're on. I have trouble remembering my own birthday. Then again, so does my DH so maybe that's a good thing. As for the map, it's framed and hanging on the wall so not looking at it would be difficult. I...
