Re: 2022 U.S. Congressional Elections

It is, however, very telling that of the people that voted no, such a high percentage voted for Elder (far exceeding the number that polls were showing). It is another indication of where the GOP is right now.

Re: 2022 U.S. Congressional Elections

Sorry, but that is incorrect reasoning. The people who voted "no" and didn't pick a replacement candidate weren't voting for "none of the above" they were doubly voting for Newsom.

Re: 2022 U.S. Congressional Elections

And it looks like none of the above was the leading candidate to replace Newsom? The results that I am seeing show Elder way, way ahead with 46.6% of the vote (compared to Paffrath with 9.8% in second). Of course there are much fewer votes on question 2 than question 1, but only the votes...

Re: 2022 U.S. Congressional Elections

The California recall election was called in favor of keeping Newsom in office within minutes of the polls closing. A big waste of over $300 million.

Re: 2022 U.S. Congressional Elections

The latest bound to fail effort to pass a voting rights bill. Democrats cut deal with Manchin to get party behind long-shot voting overhaul bill I am quite sure that Manchin is well affair that there is no chance that 10 Republicans are going to support this (or any, most likely). Once that occurs, ...

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!

You got it! Well done. I was pretty sure that Húrin's and Huor's sojourn in Gondolin ended before Beren and Lúthien were able to wrest the Silmaril from Morgoth's crown (it definitely is mentioned first in the Silmarillion narrative) , but I knew that it was all jumbled up in the time period after t...

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!

I had to check the Grey Annals to answer that question. The answer is yes, but less than ten years later the answer would be no.

Gimli to Legolas, when they met the old man in outskirts of Fangorn Forest that they were sure was out to do them in, but Legolas could not shoot him with his bow:

I'm not a labor law expert (yes that actually is quite a different thing than an employment law attorney) but it would seem very likely to me that would be a violation of the NLRA. Of course just because someone tweeted that it happened doesn't mean that it did happen. The person who tweeted it seem...

A bit of a click-bait headline, but I wouldn't call it inaccurate.

Has the Ring been destroyed at this point? If it was, it wouldn't still be the third age, would it? ;) [Pedant hat on]The Third Age actually was deemed to end when the Three Rings passed into the West, so there was a period of time after the One Ring had been destroyed that was the Third Age.[/Peda...

While we in the U.S. head precipitously into the past, Mexico is moving forward into the future.

Re: History of the Silmarillion vs. History of Middle-earth

More than 11 years later, I am again reminded of this thread. I mentioned in a thread in the Shibboleth forum that I am endeavoring to re-read all of HoMe in anticipation of reading (and reviewing, as I've been asked to do) the newly released The Nature of Middle-earth , which I should be receiving ...
