Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions

I listened to some of the oral argument before the D.C. Circuit panel today. It seemed pretty clear to me, despite some challenging questions to the attorneys for the House and the Biden administration, that they will rule against Trump, but that we will grant an extension on their stay of probably ...

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions

Here is yet another example of misleading journalism. Former New York City police commissioner intends to comply with January 6 committee subpoena but wants an apology The headline and the article itself basically says that despite the fact that former New York City Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik...

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions

In theory, there should be, though to the best of my knowledge, no court has actually so ruled. Here's an interesting opinion piece at JustSecurity from back in late August just after the select committee requested documents that argues that Trump's anticipated (at that time) executive privilege inv...

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions

Former DOJ official could be second person to face contempt charges for defying January 6 committee If Jeffrey Clark does get referred to the Justice Department I think it will be a more difficult call for Garland and his team than it was with Bannon, who had absolutely no legitimate claim to any p...

Re: The challenges ahead (Biden's America)

I was pleasantly surprised to see Ron Johnson join that. I'd be curious to know how to that came about. I would have expected him to be at the front of the line of people looking to make political points out of the tragedy. It goes to show you that things don't always go the way you (or I) expect th...

Re: The challenges ahead (Biden's America)

I wasn't quite sure where to put this; it is sort of like the opposite of the WTF thread. Wisconsin senators warn in rare joint statement outsiders may try to exploit Waukesha tragedy for 'political purposes' Wisconsin's senators, Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat Tammy Baldwin are about as far fr...

Re: The Rittenhouse and McMichael/Bryan trials

While I agree that there should be consequences for Barnhill as well, I'm not sure that it should rise to the level of criminal charges as were filed against Johnson. Although he should have recused himself sooner, and his actions demonstrated a clear bias, I don't think his actions reached the same...

Re: The Rittenhouse and McMichael/Bryan trials

Heather Cox Richardson's summary of the McMichael/Bryan case is, as always, right on point. November 26, 2021 (Friday) On Wednesday, November 24, just before the Thanksgiving holiday, a jury found Gregory McMichael (65), his son Travis McMichael (35), and their neighbor William “Roddie” Bryan (52) g...

Re: List of Books By and About Tolkien

Tolkien Studies is publishing a special supplemental edition next spring, consisting entirely of a previously unpublished and apparently large work by Tolkien, "The Chronology of The Lord of the Rings ," as edited and annotated by William Cloud Hicklin, a correspondent of Christopher Tolk...

Re: The Rittenhouse and McMichael/Bryan trials

Well, the prosecutor primarily responsible for that delay has herself been arrested, which is fairly extraordinary.
