Re: Dune

No big surprise, but it is nice to have it be official.

Re: The Sinking of Beleriand

Interestingly, this very topic came up in a discussion at TORN not long ago. I thought that a poster named Felagund had a very good post on the subject, that I am going to quote and link to, rather than try to reproduce what he said as if it were my own thoughts. Only mildly tangentially, I've wonde...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

The latest supposed revealed information is that Isildur is a main character of the show, and is believed to be played by Maxim Baldry. If so that would mean that a big part of the show would focus on the end of the Second Age and the story of the Akellabeth - the fall of Númenor. I haven't watched ...

Re: Dune

Yup. And the second half has not yet been greenlit. Hopefully this one will do well enough that they will make the second part. From all accounts that I have seen it is both a brilliant movie and a fine adpatation. Still hoping to see a review from Al here (I could cut and paste what he wrote on Fac...

Re: Asimov's "Foundation" coming to TV

True. I don't know that I would necessarily say that the Caves of Steel and the other robot novels are more fun to read than the Foundation novels but I could see why you would say that. I do agree that they would make better fodder for adaptation to the small (or big) screen.

Re: Asimov's "Foundation" coming to TV

Caves of Steel is the first of a series of four novels featuring a human police officer, Elijah Bailey, and his humaniform robot partner, Daneel Olivaw, which are preludes to the events of the Foundation series.

Re: 2020 Election: Predictions, Results and Reactions

The House has voted to hold Steven Bannon in criminal contempt of Congress and has referred it to the Dept. of Justice, which now decides whether to pursue the case. Nine Republicans joined all of the Democrats, the two GOP members of the Select Committee, and seven others, including two who did not...

Re: Dune

So you are all in the same boat as me. I would like to see on the big screen, but I can't imagine being willing to venture into a theater any time soon. Eventually I'll get a chance to watch it at home I'm sure, but on my 40 inch screen it certainly won't be same.

Al, how 'bout you?

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

They may well be thinking that this could be a series that could last far more than the five years, and extend through the Third Age into the time of TH and LOTR.

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?

There are a lot of things that are written, some of which are true, some of which are not. There certainly is no question that the rights that were originally sold to UA, that then passed to Zaentz and from him to New Line and thus to Warner's included everything in LOTR including the appendices. We...

Review of Psaki's actions (which I think clearly did violate the Hatch Act) should be conducted completely without regard to what the Trump administration did or did not do.

Technically, the FBI is conducting "law enforcement activity" at Deripaska's D.C. house. Whatever the heck that means.
