Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies fan reviews... SP
Yeah, have to agree, PtB...I believe PJ even mentions in one of the recent interviews that the rough cut of BotFA received an R rating, so I imagine Dain's axe massacre was one of the things to be toned down, along with the alleged beheading of Fili (still think it's a definite nod to Gelmir!)

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies fan reviews... SP
On another subject, whatever happened to Dain's red axe??? There is a two-page spread in the Weta Chronicles all about the design for Dain's weapon (a curious mention of Thrain in the text but that must either be a mistake for Dain or further mention of Dain is missing for it to make sense!) http://...

With reference to previous discussion of the Galadriel in Dol Guldur scene, this is the interpretation from the actor's mouth (courtesy of Brian Sibley's Official Movie Guide to BotFA) As in The Fellowship of the Ring, the filmmakers opted to explore, once more, a surprising aspect to Galadriel's ch...

That palantír vision of Gandalf's was originally part of DoS...Doug Adams mentions having seen it in the cut he saw ofDoS two months before the movie came out. See the most recent post in the Music of The Hobbit thread... You know it’s funny, there’s always a few things that change between the Octob...

Re: The Hobbit: TBotFA EE Anticipation thread
Regarding the ice-chariot business, I also am still confused as to how this works out... The Weta Chronicles for BotFA describes a goat-driven chariot which arrives with Dain's army, that is commandeered by the four dwarves heading to Ravenhill. They use it as far as "the terrain and damage&quo...

Not at all...just hearing that discussion after we had had one on the same subject here made it stick out in my mind!
I also agree with their comments on Alfrid, btw...giving someone untrustworthy important job after important task, even though he failed consecutively just verged on the ridiculous.

Yes, the panel discussion was rather wishy-washy, although I did like the mention of how they seemed to think PB previously evaded their question regarding Gandalf knowing Bilbo had found a magic ring!

Elen, is that the same Empire podcast with PB that had been posted earlier, or a new one? I had listened to the earlier one and I know they said there was going to be another one with RA, but I don't recall ever seeing a link to that. Is this a different one? Just stumbled across the RA podcast, th...

Re: Lord of the Rings Reboot
I too like the idea of dramatizing the visit of the Black Riders to Erebor, which we normally first learn about at the Council of Elrond. Were you inspired somewhat by the 1981 BBC Radio adaptation, at all, PtB? I remember how effective Sibley's decision was to inter-cut the Dwarves story with dialo...

Finally saw this. Initial reaction is that's it's a significantly better film than DOS. One major complaint with the TE for me was that the first half an hour seemed to be so awfully rushed with so little character development. Loved the Beorn scenes. Gandalf's departure felt much more sensible thi...

No, which is why I didn't mention it in the first place... But presumably that alleged reference was the result of others picking up on the exceeding similarity that you noted!

Re: Continuing Journey of The One Ring in The Hobbit [Spoile
Well, Gandalf would know about Bilbo's deeds while he was gone from the other dwarves of course. I'd like to think Gandalf can guess about the invisibility as much given the nature of Bilbo's assistance in his absence (slipping out of sight when captured then suddenly reappearing out of nowhere, ge...

Re: Continuing Journey of The One Ring in The Hobbit [Spoile
Why on earth should Gandalf possibly be able to guess that Bilbo found a magic ring in the Goblin Tunnels - something, yes, Bilbo tells him that much, but are magic rings lying around in tunnels all the time???? Gandalf is not with the Company in DoS when Bilbo uses his invisibility, so we're suppos...

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies fan reviews... SP
I am much more bothered by the juvenile humor in the LOTR films than in the Hobbit films. The buffoonery of Gmily and Merry and Pippin is much more out of place than, say, Alfred in BotFA, or Bombur in AUJ. I dislike the burping at the unexpected party, but not as much as Pippin's farting. What abo...

Definitely not 3, but probably 5-6. Did anybody do a fan edit of DOS like the AUJ edit I liked? I haven't heard any more regarding a Barefoot Hobbit DoS edit, but I was sent links to a strictly purist edit of AUJ and DoS that included some EE material, (particularly a re-arranged edit of the EE Beo...
