Re: Join me in a re-read of the Lord of the Rings?

I would love to read it together on a Zoom, but I think that would be hard. I could do a Thursday night or a Saturday night. I live near Salt Lake in the Mountain Time zone and have access to setting up a Zoom so I would do it at 6 pm MDT each Saturday if others want. I think we read say chapter 1 a...

Join me in a re-read of the Lord of the Rings?

Well, I need to escape back to Middle Earth and so last night I read chapter 1 of the Fellowship. I am not looking for an in depth analysis, I have done enough of that kind of stuff over the last 4 years. I am just wondering if anyone wants to join me in the re-read and just share by a series of cha...

Where is Your Middle Earth?

This has been on my mind of late. Might be the wrong thread, so if so, please move it. I wonder where Middle Earth is for each of us? For me parts like in the hills of the East Bay (Bay Area), Sunol, Tilden Park, the mountains of Santa Cruz, etc. where I grew up and where the Shire, the Gray Havens ...

Re: The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies fan reviews... SP

Something I have been reflecting on in the book vs movie is the notion of what Bilbo gained. On page 326 of the book, Gandalf looks at Bilbo after Bilbo has just quoted Roads go ever ever on, stating "My dear Bilbo!" he said. "Something is the matter with you! You are not the hobbit t...

My son has been living in Italy for almost 2 years now so I thought I would share some of his pics: This is in Sicily at a place called Ragusa the old city of Ragusa from the Middle Ages. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f203/ArathornJax/RagusaCity2_zps9e5f9fe9.jpg This castle is where the monk in ...

Spoilers coming: Well I checked and it's been a year and I finished up my EDd a week ago finally so now I have time to have a LIFE! I'll pop in more over the next year. The movie is an adaptation for me, different then the book but I have always felt, and will always feel that the books release Midd...

I do accept the fact that you have to separate PJ's Middle Earth from Tolkien's Middle Earth. They are separate and to enjoy them, the reader or viewer has to accept and separate the two. I think if you do that, the movies are enjoyable, I find the books more enjoyable. PJ is a movie maker and enter...

SPOILERS. Read if you don't mind them. Overall, it was enjoyable as a movie. However, at times I was thinking it is more a video game then anything. I enjoyed it as a film. I would agree the location and visual imagery was magnificent I really do enjoy Balin, and in a way I wonder if it will give mo...

I Love the books and they are my first love and to put it bluntly, they are Middle Earth for me. However the movies I enjoy and I'll share why. In my childhood we had a home that was magical to me. It had a.5 acre backyard and the yard was split by a wonderfully large hedge with a path between the h...

Lets see, in Desolation I would like the following: 1. For Bilbo to emerge as a leader of the troop as he does in the book; the spider attack of course and the rescue. 2. Corny but I want to see the Elves get drunk and pass out in barrels out of bond. 3. Meeting Bard, the handling of the singing of ...

Just saw the movie today for the first time. I posted my review on it and the one thing I hate is that PJ seems to feel that in The Hobbit, The Unexpected Journey, there has to be a chase like the Nazgûl had in the Fellowship. Azog was built up far too much and for me it just distracts from the movi...

A local review here in Utah from KSL by Travis Poppleton on "5 Reasons The Hobbit shouldn't be 3 movies." Basically, it should be one movie and then lists some of his favorite parts stating the Riddle Games is the best part of the movie.
